Vmax at Brunthingthorpe

I'm taking my car to VMax at Bruntingthorpe this weekend. Looking at the car list I'll easily be the slowest car there, but as the're using a laser speed trap I'll report back on what I find the top end is.

Don't be so sure.

I did a trackday there and there was a Citroen Saxo showing some tasty motors the way home (and a mk1 MR2 was very quick)

It's the bike powered cars that will be the quickest, then the Chaterams and the like but then the competition gets closer and you should be able to take some unlikely scalps.

As I understand it, these pistonheads vmax days are, as the name suggests, designed for top-speed on the 2mile straight at bruntingthorpe. The rest of the track is used just to warm up and then slow down on.

Still, it'll be nice to see some exotic machinary, as well as find out what my motor really can do, without worrying about PC Plod.

My Money's on the RUF GT2 being the fastest, the stock car is the fastest thing I've ever been in, so a Ruf tuned one has got to be good for 200+mph.

Okay, you might be right.

I booked at Bruntingthorpe because of the 2 mile straight only to find when I got there that they were only using about 1/2 mile of it and we were chasing Elises and Chaterhams in a normal family saloon. Good laugh though but wrecked a set of tyres.

We did get a go at a standing mile at the end of the day and saw the clock at 130mph but the Porsche Turbo that went before me (driving one handed and operating a video cam) hit 195 mph in a standing mile and was dissapointed!!

Managed 126mph (by laser trap, 131mph on my speedo).

Was a fun day. Top speed was recorded by the RUF Turbo at 191mph. Oh, and the Ferrari 360CS has one of the best exhausts I've ever heard. But not something for when you've a hangover.
