Hi All,

I'm planning on replacing the "Fisher Price" head unit in my (facelift) car, and am wondering whether a bluetooth handsfree solution is worthwhile paying for, due to the level of road/wind noise?
It's worth saying that I've had one fitted in a Celica before and it was fine, but worked better in the Avensis that has replaced it.

I'm also interested in any opinions on the head units I'm contemplating if anyone has the time/interest/inclination.

Cheap and cheerful - aux/ipod in but no bluetooth, but hey it's £40!

I have a jvc double din and I mounted the microphone for the bluetooth on the windscreen wiper stalk so when your driving your talking directly to the steering wheel and able to concentrate on the road. Its worked fine for me, even made a call with the roof off, it was only at 30mph though. I think motorway speeds might be too much noise

I have a Bury Bluetooth kit installed in mine and works great with hood up or down.

I went for the Alpine CDE-133BT in the end. It ended up being the stores ex-demo unit, so only £70 I'm rather pleased with that. I was tempted by the "AppRadio" approach, but the head unit in the roadster is low down so the value of a large, interactive screen would be a bit lost I think.

It's now fitted and working, but the fascia adaptor hasn't arrived yet so I've not yet reinstalled the trim (there's something appealing about the "stripped out race car" look though).

It definitely sounds better than the stock head unit, but not THAT much better. Hmmm, maybe time to replace the stock speakers then. Oh dear, this seems like the start of a slippery slope (the original plan was to keep the car completely standard and not mess with it   s:roll:  s:roll:  )

I have a Parrot 3200 with the mic in front of the instrument cluster and it works fine with roof up or down.
Had to slow down to 50 on the motorway when the roof was down though  s:) :) s:)
