If you're running JL speakers I'd suggest matching them with a JL amp or an amp of similar quality.

The 4ch JL amp is about £160 (I think model is  JX4/360) buts its a bit too big to fit the rear bin, you'd need to make an MDF base.   I opted for a Hertz ep4 which fits well and is in the same sort of league as JL.  The Hertz is about £200.  I love the sound of mine.   Also focal do a black amp that will fit but its getting pricey then about £240.
2003 Silver MR2 - Very Very Standard + Leccy Renault Zoe aka the battery mobile.
Ex Blue 04 MR2 - TTE Turbo\'d ~185bhp/200lbs/ft, Sports Clutch, Breast Plate, Lowered & half decent audio
Ex Silver 05 MR2 -  SP turbo conversion 227bhp, 205lbs/ft, with  cobra dual exit exhaust.

Bernie, would a JBL mono amp be any good to run the sub?

Nige I have no idea wanted something that doesn't "live" with you in the cabin so thought something that would fit in the bottom if a bin might fit the bill I haven't got a clue teccy wise but think it has to be 4 channel from what S12vea advised

Well it depends what you want your system to do really. I run a really good pair of speakers from just my double din head unit. I was going for a UD sub, but mine sounded okay as it was. If you just want to run a sub from an amp and let the HU drive the door speakers, then it would suit. You could run a 2 channel for the doors also if you wanted. Just a thought mate really.  s;) ;) s;)

Understand I think !
I'm led to believe the JL door speakers are well recommended so may work well with the new HU. what's the size of your mono amp ?

I've actually got the a JBL 4ch amp that I was running before I got the Hertz EP4.  Both fit in the rear bin.  I was thinking of selling the JBL for £45 + postage.   In your case though I'd hold out for something better for those JL front speakers.  Nige's amp is a 150w monoblock so it should drive your JL sub no worries.

If you want a 4 channel amp, I would certainly be looking at something like a used Alpine one from the bay. Alpine amps work very well indeed and do good speakers justice.

Good idea, which I have stolen - cheers Vinxy. Also thanks for the vid showing the wiring, in the end I didn't go with the wire coat hanger tip as my gauge of wire meant that with a bit a grease it went through fairly rigid (with a few attempts).
