Hi,

I have been reading up about replacing the stock speakers and the focals seem to be the speaker of choice. Looking around though there seems to be two similar speakers, the Focal 165A1 SG Access 17cm Component Car Speakers and Focal 165A1 Access 17cm Component Car Speakers. It is not clear from the Focal website what the SG adds, does anyone know? They are more expensive though.

I will not be using an amp, just want to upgrade the speakers and will flashband the doors when I fit them.
Any advice appreciated before I order the cheaper ones!

Can't answer your question - someone will soon.
But after doing exactly the same - you wont get the benefit until you put an amp in - its a lot of money to spend and I was very disappointed. It all came alive by adding the amp - fantastic results worth very penny.
Then you then go down the route of HU change, UD sub.....  s:lol:  s:lol:

I've just bought the 165a1 they are built well and sound great with the flashed doors. I'm running off heAdunit but will amp shortly.
Another one won't hurt  .....

Based on my experience, you won't get the most out of them without an amp, but as long as you sound deaden the doors they will be an improvement over stock.  Where the disappointment comes in is when you use them with a stock HU and on stock undeadened doors.  They would just sound tinny in that case and the bass bleeds away.

Thanks for the replies, I am sure you're right and it would sound better with an amp but that's maybe something for the future if I'm not happy with the change of speakers and sound deadening (its a new head unit, not the original one).

I will go for the cheaper ones, maybe they are just an old model and the GS ones are the latest model.
