Just wondering what the tyre sizes for the MR2 are, as I'm experiencing a lot of road noise at the moment and was looking to replace them with something quieter. (if it's possible!)

Current size and makes are:

Rear: Kingstar Radial K106   (215/40/16) 86w

Front: Toyo Proxes T1R (195/50/15) 82v

Thanks

Tyre specs are here. http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=24453.

First job is to get rid of your rears. NEVER mix tyres. Strongly recommend you change them for T1Rs, unless you have an urge to replace all 4.

Ouch, mine are out by a fair old bit! Out of curiosity, how would my tyres affect the speed on the speedo? I think I was flashed the other day, but would have sworn I was near the limit/below it. Would tyre size affect this?

You recommend getting rid of the rear tyres? Is there a reason for this in particular? (They have a large amount of tread, newly new in fact).

Your tyre size would affect the speedo a little but they're quite close really, you're only looking at it being 1.5% out (less than 0.5mph @ 30). Something like this will tell you the effect of your sizes.

The tyres you have on the back are very budget (cheap Hankooks I think) and not really good for a car like ours, the Toyos you have on the front are quite a good brand and used by a lot of us on here, that's the reason.

Keep the cheapo rear tyres, but keep them as spares increase you get a puncture of something, carp tyres on a mr2 with winter coming up is generally not advisable, plus I reckon buy two rears for the car from somewhere like here

Tyres can make or break a MR2, plus £100 for decent rear tyres is probably less than your insurance excess should those cheapo rear tyres send you into a ditch.

Personal choice but I don't run T1-R all round, they are great for the front but I prefer the feel of the factory bridgestones on the back as I found the toyos where too wallowly and unstable feeling when cornering at high speeds, I went with the potenza's and since then the car feels much more stable at high speed. But kept my t1-r's on the front. I'm going to try the 40 profile t1-r's next on the back as I had the 225/45/16's originally, maybe the lower profile will help things feel more stable.
