Went into MRT on Friday for an intermediate service (13K), and asked the clerk to note on the checkin form that I wanted the pre-cats inspected and the results recorded on the  service report.

Whoah.... a small army unit of MRTs turned up dressed in ties, and to cut a long story short  they catagorically refused to record that they had checked the precats and their condition as "if something went wrong they would be liable" !!!

It seems that they have never heard any cases of pre-cat failures, and genuinely did not belive me. I said that I was member of the MR2ROC and that there are many documented cases reported, but they still did not seem to believe me.

Anyhow, this was getting pretty confrontational, so I backed off. Told me that the engine would need to be TOTALLY cold before they could remove the O2 sensors, and that I would therefore need to leave it overnight, which I simply could not do, even though I new this was a gross exageration.

Later, they asked me if I wanted to attempt to remove the sensors as they may pick up (strip threads) on the way out, so I said yes do it (As I had removed them 3 months earlier with no problems), so they did and invited me to look at the cats which looked great (as they did 3 months ago).

And that was it, but of course no written proof that the cats were OK.

I did make a pri#k of myself at the same time, I have had water coming in on the drivers side door since I bought the 2 from them 6 months ago, and said that I had pointed it out when I bought the car (after test drive) and would therefore expect it to be covered under warranty. So they ask me to show them where I think its coming from and I prod around a bit and reveal a split in the rubber which they then quite rightly pointed out that "that was where the roof split with the Apillar" - what a plonker !

Anyway, it still leaks, but the plus point is that the mechanic & his apprentice in the workshop did a professional job and even called me to point out some small damage under the rear wheel arch  which is very minor and by looking at the cracks in the paint filled in with grime & wax etc, meant  that this has been like this a loooong time, so no probems with the guys in the workshop !

Yeah, seems that anyone working for Toyota has never heard any cases of pre-cat failures. Over here even a dealer who has handled two cases has never heard of them  s:roll:  s:roll:
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.
