Taken from the MR2OC...

Quote from: "Nicola"The MR2 mk3 will be on Top gear on Sunday.

It is reviewed with the mx5 and fiat barchetta. It didn't receive any favourable comments.

The car will be presented to the 'cool wall'.

The poor thing will find itself placed in the 'uncool' section.

So prepare yourself on Sunday MK3 owners.

As you may have guessed, I watched the filming of Top Gear yesterday

Hasn't it been on the cool wall for a while now?
I seem to remember it moving from uncool to somwhere in the middle.

And I seem to remember it did well when up against more expensive cars?

Oh well, back to reading EVO.   s:lol:  s:lol:

I'll take EVO's opinion over Top Gears anyday of the week, Espec the 7.2 0-60 time!  Depends on why you bought the car to be honest.

Jezza Clarkson will say anything to be different, but he is a funny chap.

Hmm, weren't the 206cc etc cool a while back?

I thought the cool wall is a wall of the most fashionable cars, which i wouldn't really class the mr2 as.

the only negative thing i heard said about it was that it had no boot, also i didnt see them put it on the cool board.

I think the '2 looked awesome being thrown sideways around that airfield. Richard hammond said 'you have to work a little bit harder at it than the mx5' - i dont mind a bit of hard work!  s:wink:  s:wink:   makes it that all the more rewarding  s:) :) s:)

I think they must have cut that part out of the programme as it was probably over-running: One minute Richard had 4 or 5 bits of card in his hand, the next there were none...

And I have it on very good authority that the 'test drive' that EVO claim to have had in the 190bhp TTE turbo (the car is only 185bhp BTW) was based on a 5 minute run they had in the car at a 2 hour multi-publication press briefing. The article reads as though they had the vehicle for several hours if not days.

Having spent the weekend at JAE (with the keys to the TTE turbo development car most of the time - not to mention the Street Affair [shame the gearbox had a sensor fault]), I probably spent more time driving the car than they did but totally agree with them - it is what the car should have been all along.

All my source said was "Ah - your British press - they have a very good sense of imagination. Ja?"

I didn't think the review of the 2 was that unfavourable to be honest. hammond just said that it was a more "serious car that required more work". Didn't slag it and to be honest, having driven both, he is bang on with his assumptions. The MX5 IS a softer car and maybe all the more forgiving for that. But if you want the more "hardcore" driving machine, then the 2 is the one to go for. Both legit statements really................

As for the cool wall..........well, by the very fact that Clarkson, of all people, chooses where these cars go on the board says to me that a good 50% of the cars on the "Uncool" section are by definition in the wrong place!!!!  s:wink:  s:wink:    s:lol:  s:lol:   And that includes the 2!!!!  s8) 8) s8)

A few questions:

How did the Barchetta fair by comparison?

Did they time the cars round the track?

Is TG repeated during the week?
Blue SMT with leather, A/C and TTE Twin.

All the more reason to fill in the Top Gear Survey, let's face it, The Mx-5 owners club have all done it, probably a few times each.

Boost that rating.
