digital radio with sat/nav swap from standard unit

Hi all

I'm looking to upgrade my radio in the MR2 from the factory standard to a digital radio one with possibly a built in sat/nav.
Has anyone come across a decent unit for this or done the swap themselves. I'd rather have a recommendation for a decent unit than take pot luck and
find it doesn't have good reception or playback.

Hi Mart,

I did a fair bit of research and discounted the sat nav in the end as I can do it on my phone so went for a single DIN Pioneer DEH-X8500DAB from Halfords.

It's a good unit with excellent features, DAB radio, SD card reader, dual USB slots, Bluetooth audio and bluetooth hands free so I can make calls (when safe to do so of course...).

Fits in a treat, if you are thinking of going down this route I can let you know the wiring and face plate etc and I could post some photos.

Have to say I would love to have 6Music in my car. Practically the only station I listen to in the house.

what DAB aerial did you use & how is it fitted & where is the antenna cable run?

I opted for the Autoleads one, search Halfords website for code 338357.

Aerial is in top left of the windscreen with the wire down the post and behind the dash.

Really unobtrusive and gets a good signal.

Thanks both of you, I think I will ditch the sat / nav option and stick with a good quality DAB, I love Kerrang and Gold on Dab...a bit of a weird combo but miss them in the car. Besides half the fun of touring in the MR is going off and not knowing where you turn up or who you see.

Will look at that Pioneer unit.

I fitted a TRD exhaust recently, sounds as good as the stereo  :-) :-) :-)
