It's in nowhere near far enough that mate. Did you remove the little side tabs that usually come on the cages? I think they are more for protecting the cage from bending in transit than actually using on the car.

im using what look like side holders, not a cage. if thats what you mean, i used them on my last double din, but yea i can tell this is wrong. I just looks like it might be too snug with a cage, and if i push it all the way back wont the underneath 'ashtray' part be pertruding forward too much?

Wow this is testing my memory now lol its been a few years since I last removed my double din. I have a cage but no side holders if that makes sense? The ashtray bit does stuck out further than the stereo on mine and the unit sits snug and neat

Also had similar problem when fitting my JVC double din:

Make sure you have the brackets in the most forward hole positions on HU.
If still have problem - swop the brackets over left to right then upside down to get the correct alignment - it bought it in closer for me

hi matt, as you know, youve got the same headunit as myself, mine fits great! how i installed mine is take the standard brackets off the standard headunit and put them on the new headunit and thats it jobs a goodun! i didnt use the cage, just slides right in and fitting is great! i will upload a photo later. What id recomend matt, is to basically just start again, take it all out and put the brackets on the right hole.

Yes, exactly what I had to do to fit a double DIN pioneer unit and it all fits flush like it belongs there.

the surround is what was on the car with the orginal headunit. think you can buy them, infact thinking about, isnt the brackets part of this surround??

I have a KW XR411 and the standard head unit surround looks far too wide to look neat around the unit like the one posted here. Also it pokes out, however I did not fit it so am unsure how it was put together, I've found some advice on MR2OC and it seems that half the bleeding dash has to come off, is this the case or has anyone found a way around it? A job for a dryer day I think!
