Afternoon all,

Hope you have all had a good Christmas! I have recently bought a new key for my Toyota MR2 Mk3 2000 model, pre-facelift silver car. (Thought I would put lots of info in to avoid lots of questions!). It came with a black Toyota key with various numbers etc on the back, so i am presuming this is a "black key".

Having read all the posts on the site about programming, this was the key bought

 m http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-MR2-FU ... 3a83255ef8 m

The key has been cut and am now having trouble programming it. Neither the immobiliser or central locking methods have been successful.

When programming the central locking, it happily enters the programming mode to accept a new key, but nothing happens when i start bashing buttons on the new key.

When trying to immobiliser, i have followed several slightly different sets of instructions, but with no luck from any of them!

Has anyone heard of similar problems or knows of anything i might be doing incorrectly? If not, i guess i will have to get Toyota to do it!

Thanks,

Emma the MR2   s:) :) s:)

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply dave
To save confusion, the car is called Emma, i am Greg. Hope im not the only person who names their car!
I did manage to open the keys and the black toyota key has a grey inner body, whilst the new key has a clear one. I have decided that after many attempts, i will have to bite the bullet and take it to Toyota to get programmed, which is a shame, but i did try!

Hi Greg,
I have had the same problem of not being able to program such a key. Please tell us how you get on with Toyota, as I suspect they will not be able to programme the key. The ebay seller said I could return the inner electronics part and get my money back if Toyota cannot programme it. Thanks.

HI people,

So i went to Toyota and asked to program the key. They seemed sceptical as it was not an official toyota key, but said they would try. They did try, it didn't work.

The eBay seller was v happy to refund the cost of the key, which was nice.

Thanks for that Dave, i will send a pic of the internals. It is a nice navy grey coloured inner square looking thing.

Toyota quoted me a mere £145 for an official key.......
