Well, these rims are right tarts. First Andy (Hope4sun) had them, then Martin (MPH), then Grant (GSB) who never fitted them to his car.

Well the wheels arrived a month ago, and they were completely knackered. They'd had a punishing life: paint was coming off in great strips but they were still circles.  s:wink:  s:wink:  So I got them refurb'd in Sheffield in 'Hyper Black'. Basically they're power-coated black and are then over-sprayed with silver. Head on they look metallic black, but where they catch the light they shine silver. They are absolutely stunning.  s:D :D s:D    s:shock:  s:shock:

I received my caliper paint from Paul (Coley) – cheers bud – at JAE and did the painting this weekend. The colour is metallic orange, or Nissan Sunset by it's real name (think 350Z). The decals on the wheel spokes I produced on my inkjet printer! Silver inkjet film and some spray lacquer. So the TRD logo is actually metallic orange.  s8) 8) s8)

The wheel centre caps had a hexagon fake 'nut' in the centre with the Wolfrace logo on them. These too were knackered so I hack-sawed them off and applied some (wonderful) black X-Design badges, held on with contact adhesive and 'No More Nails' on the reverse.

As I'd now gone with a 'black' theme, I repainted my nose badge 'sparkle black'.  s:lol:  s:lol:

Oh and the car's dirty coz the lane to work was wet and muddy this morning.  s:evil:  s:evil:

KT? You mean KN? No, I had them done at a place in Sheffield. KN couldn't do the finish I wanted, as they are primarily wheel manufacturers. And yes, they're 17.

No rubbing issues with lowered springs  s:?: :?: s:?:  I'm looking at buying some 17" wheels of another member but was weighing up the minus points from the stock wheels, i.e. how much does it knock the speedo out by, what is the loss in acceleration and how is the handling effected  s:?: :?: s:?:  Let me know when you give it a good test  s:wink:  s:wink:

No rubbing what so ever, but my car isn't lowered.. The wheels have been on a week now so I've had a chance to 'give it a good test'.  s:wink:  s:wink:  I know that the 'purists' amongst us (and in no way is that a dig) say that it dulls acceleration etc, all of which is true. But on the street I can't notice any difference.  s:? :? s:?  And I always drive it like I stole it. Handling is great, but the tyres will have a lot to do with that. I should have ditched the stockers ages ago.  s:evil:  s:evil:  Motorways in the wet aren't frightening anymore! And I can 'do' roundabouts faster in the wet. As for the ride quality itself, once again I haven't noticed any difference. This car always rode harder than my 02 anyway, but the difference with the 17's on is negligible. Or put it another way – Bev hasn't commented that the ride quality has deteriorated, and that's good enough for me.  s:lol:  s:lol:

Speedo's a couple of mph out, so when the needle reads 40, for example, I'm actually doing 38. I think I've got that the right way round.  s:? :? s:?  So should be good for speed cameras.  s:lol:  s:lol:

Go buy the wheels!

Hey man,

Love those rims they look awsome on the car but any chance of any more pics of the car?

It a bitch finding pics of sable mr2s. I'm trying to decide between getting a silver or sable and am pretty much set on sable but I've never seen one in person so pics are my only resource?!

Sable,

Sable rules, nothing wrong with silver, but theres an awful lot of silver cars out there. For me sable makes the 2 look a bit more aggresive also.

By the way, this car looks sooo good.

How did you repaint the nose badge?

Sable's good at hiding dirt as car dirt when dry is generally greyish. But when the light catches it when clean, it shimmers – it's not just metallic grey, it's slightly pearlescent (called Phantom Grey Pearl in the US). Great colour!  s:lol:  s:lol:

Where abouts are you in the UK? I'm sure you must be close to someone with a Sable car.

As for the badge, there's an article on SC IIRC. But basically there's a small hole on the reverse. Insert something into this (after wrapping in in a rag to protect the plastic badge) and push. Hard. Make sure the badge is very warm and covered in lighter fluid (or something else to dissolve adhesive) as this will make the separation easier.

Once the clear/blue centre is separated from the chrome rear, clean both to remove excess adhesive pad residue.

Then carefully sand the reverse of the centre part to remove the blue paint. Use a fine sandpaper, and once all paint is removed re-sand using a very fine grit paper. BE CAREFUL NOT TO SAND INTO THE RECESSES, THUS REMOVING THE CHROME OF THE EAGLE/WORDING. It doesn't matter that the clear plastic is now semi-opaque due to sanding because as you paint it, all the marks will disappear!  s:D :D s:D

Once sanded and dust-free, mask off the front and spray the reverse with a can of spray paint. Wait until dry and using contact adhesive, re-assemble front and rear chrome sections.

If these instructions seem confusing now, it will be quite obvious when actually doing it.  s:wink:  s:wink:
