I wanted to get one of the color-coded j-spec badges from that guy on SC, but the wait tiime in crazy. As I already have a blue j-spec badge, im *thinking* of doing it myself.

I have loads of bodycolor caliper paint left over from the groupbuy. So I was wondering if anyone else has attempted this and if it was easy? Worst comes to worst, i'll mess it up and have to buy a new badge

How hard is the cover to come off, and how easy is it to stick back on (and how do you stick it on?

haha paul just posted this in another thread, so i'll answer my own question:

QuoteAs for the badge, there's an article on SC IIRC. But basically there's a small hole on the reverse. Insert something into this (after wrapping in in a rag to protect the plastic badge) and push. Hard. Make sure the badge is very warm and covered in lighter fluid (or something else to dissolve adhesive) as this will make the separation easier.

Once the clear/blue centre is separated from the chrome rear, clean both to remove excess adhesive pad residue.

Then carefully sand the reverse of the centre part to remove the blue paint. Use a fine sandpaper, and once all paint is removed re-sand using a very fine grit paper. BE CAREFUL NOT TO SAND INTO THE RECESSES, THUS REMOVING THE CHROME OF THE EAGLE/WORDING. It doesn't matter that the clear plastic is now semi-opaque due to sanding because as you paint it, all the marks will disappear!

Once sanded and dust-free, mask off the front and spray the reverse with a can of spray paint. Wait until dry and using contact adhesive, re-assemble front and rear chrome sections

It's actually quite simple, just time consuming.  I'll probably knock out two or three this week.

It's a wonder that guy's had a lock on the painted badges market for so long.
