burned clutch?? please help...

i just installed my PPE header and Downpipe today and im very happy with the power gain. but now i have another problem...
when i step on the gas pedal, the RPM goes up fast, no matter what speed im at and which gear and the MPH goes up slow... for example, i put into 4th gear when im running 30mph, i step on the gas and the rpm BOOST up to 5000++ immediately like im on a free gear and the mph slowly, i mean slowly go up... does that mean i have a burned clutch??

well your engine most defo doesn't sound like it's connected to the wheels anymore. clutch sounds reasonable if you're getting _some_ connection.

if the clutch is worn out, yes.

Either the clutch is worn down or it's not engaging fully.

Either way, don't drive it like that, but get it fixed. You'll only harm other stuff in there, like the flywheel.

To hijack this thread slightly.. I had a warning from the garage at my 50k service that my clutch was slipping slightly "when driven hard"?! s:evil: :evil: s:evil:

Quite what they were doing to my car at the time is probably not worth thinking about, I haven't noticed anything wrong as yet... but then I've probably got used to minor slippage over a period of time?!

Does this sound reasonable to anyone? Most of the 55k miles I've covered have been motorway driving, I don't ride the clutch on hills, and it's never been on a track...

I'm thinking that if it's worse at the 60k service, I might upgrade to a better clutch when it finally dies... I think it's been mentioned before that a Corolla t-sport clutch or something can be used?

You don't have to drive the car hard to see if the clutch is slipping.At 30mph or so just put the car in 5th and floor the throttle. If the clutch is on it's way out it'll slip then.

Doesn't sound reasonable to me at all. IF you are telling the truth about your driving s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

I completely agree with Ian about checking for a weak clutch. If the garage are saying it slips when driven hard they may be talking sh1te. I would ask them to explain their diagnosis in more detail.

I keep forgetting to do the low speed 5th gear thing - will try it out on my way home from work tonight and see what happens!

It does seem odd that the clutch might be on the way out already - especially as I am telling the truth about my driving habits! s:)
