Dont know if this is the best place to put it, so please move it to another area if its not suitable.

Basically im getting a new mr2 in sept with a hard top.

I was going to put the hard top against the wall with the rear window at the top and the front edge of the top at the bottom located in a little bracket. It will then be held against the wall bu some straps or something.

My big worry is that the weight of the rear of the hard top (glass area) will be too heavy on the thin edge resting in the bracket and will cause it to bend.

Any thoughts.... ive included a rough sketch to show you what i was thinking of.

                  *
       xxxxx  * w
               x * a
                x* l
                x* l
                x*
                x*
                x*
             I x *
             I---*

basically the x bit is the roof with the glass at the top, the stars are the wall and the I and ---- is the bracket. I tried to post a better pic but it didnt work.[/img]

I thought this had come up before, so I did a quick search using "wall bracket", and found this thread:

Hard Top Wall Fixing Brackets

In summary, there are a number of suppliers who make brackets (including Toyota).  I can understand you not wanting to pay the (sometimes) high prices for these relatively small bits of metal, but I think some of the options are worth a look - and a purpose made set of brackets (not that I'm saying yours wouldn't be) is going to be a lot cheaper than a new hardtop.

You could also check ebay for people selling the official trolley stand, which can be hung on the wall. See this thread here:

Hard Top Cover

Which also mentions a wall-hangable cover from a company called Impacta.  I recall a Elise-owning colleague of mine recommending them to me as this is apparently what the Elise owners use.

Hope you find what you need,

Well, for what it's worth, mine has been propped up in the shed on it's window edge since about March, and it's not bent/broken/crumbled into a heap yet.. At least, it hadn't last time I checked the shed..

BTW, to get your ASCII picture to display properly, you could put it inside [ code ] [ /code ] blocks  s:) :) s:)

Like so:

               x * a
                x* l

I had just got up before!! Not sure about the bit that says essential to maintain the shape, mine spent time last year in a greenhouse and a shed and it was still the same shape when I put it back on the car!!

I was going to try and fabricate some sort of bracket / cradle myself, but a bout of extreme lazyness took over.
In the end I went for the wall brackets, not exactly cheap at around 40 quid for a couple of bits of bent iron, but they do serve their purpose and are a damn signt cheaper than the trolley stand.

well ive got the brackets made up, my only concern is that if i have the hard top with the glass at the top and the front edge of the roof in the brackets, will it bend the roof out of shape with the size and weight of the glass part pushing down

Follow the link to the hardtop brackets.  Beware....use very strong wall plugs and screws. Came back from holiday to find the rh top screw had pulled the wallplug halfway out  s:( :( s:(    Luckily got to it before any damage.

Cheers
