Just invested in a DAB head unit that also has bluetooth for mobile phone.

As a result I'll need to get the mic & antenna cables up from the HU thru the dash & up the front pillars to mic & the glass mount antenna.

Any guides about on how to get the trim off the front pillars & how to get through the dash to the HU?

You may want to consider mounting the microphone somewhere else as the noise from air movement is going to be significant if mounted on the top edge of the windscreen unless you always drive with a hardtop fitted. I fitted mine to the top cowl on the steering column between the gauges and the steering wheel and as close to the steering wheel as was possible. It is not brilliant but then the MR2 is a noisy car!   s:) :) s:)  Routing the cable to that location is easy, you just need to thread it behind the dash with you hands.

For a windscreen fitting you may be able to press the cable into the gap between the glass and the plastic rather than take of the plastic. If I was going to fit a DAB aerial I would consider a combined DAB + FM replacement for the sometimes troublesome telescopic aerial.

I placed a mic in this location too, worked fine, I tried a few positions and this was the best

I've read good reports on the glass mounted DAB antenna & I've already bought one so that's the route I'll be going down for the DAB antenna.

Thanks for the hint on the mic mounting though. That would make sense.

The windscreen ones are fine. I fitted one to our 350z roadster and it's really good, i placed it at the top of the windscreen, passenger side so it's less intrusive to the driver  s:) :) s:)

Cheers Meeerrrk.

Now I need someone who can explain how to get into the windscreen pillars & through the dash so I can fit it.

If you take the pillar trim off, which should be easy by pull te clips / unscrewing then it should open up a space between the dash and te car frame to pass the wire. Once the trim is off it will become clear

Hi,
If your DAB aerial is a stick on the windscreen type then remember it needs to be stuck on vertically.

Done.

Remove the two star bolts holding the roof catch, then simply pull off the trim on the winscreen pillar. Remove a little area of paint from the pillar as your windscreen mount needs a connection to ground on here (the Autoleads DAB antenna has a sticky connection for this).

Make sure the windscreen is clean of course for your sticky aerial mount.

Thread the antenna cable down past the fuse board on the passenger side of the dash then feed it along to the HU.

Quite easy really, although thosb on here had previously tried to remove those bolts on the roof catch on his & reckons they wouldn't budge.

I was just about to say you will need to removed the latches for the roof.

Those star head bolts are locktighted in so you need to be very careful removing. Well done for getting yours undone ok. Mine got rounded when i had the windscreen replaced and the fitter got windscreen glue creeping out between the window and the piliar. I had to drill one of mine out in the end.

The windscreen DAB aerials need to be grounded off the metal windscreen surround so the pilliar would have to come off to get to it.
