B&M push nut

Why did toyota fit a stupid push nut and not a retaining clip? Anyways what is the probability that this will break trying to remove it?  I'd say the probability is pretty high, and as I have no spare I don't want to drive around without one.

If it does break, can I use a retaining clip instead? anyone done this?

depends, if your installing a B&M you get a spare with it.

Thats the problem...it's a cheapo B&M copy.  So no spare! I'm pretty sure it'll snap if I give it any pressure...hmm

Almost certainly got a critical need detector built in.  So if you've not way of getting a replacement, the car won't work without it, and you need the car.  It's far far more likely to break.

Great stuff..thanks for that Mark.  I think i'll try and prise it off, and use an E clip if It breaks whilst I order a new part.

I have a spare as teh one I got with teh B&M never went on, the original was intact.

If you want I'll post it to you.

If you need it, send me a replacement when you get one, if not just send it back.

Many thanks for the offer Mark, my grandfather came round tonight and he's pretty sure he has some, so I think I should be alright.  At the moment I have an E clip on it, which seems to be doing its job.  (Though i'm not sure I like how notchy the shifter is)

as long as you greased all teh balls well, it should be fine, it will loosen up and you'll get used to it.

add the bushings from carl, and all teh notchiness goes, the stock one will feel like stiring porridge by comparison.

Yeah that's what im planning, just seeing if there is interest in a GB now! I really like the shorter, more positive throw.  It just feels as though I could change faster with the other one.  Undoubtedly I will ultimately change quicker with the new one though.  Have to say the EBAY one I used is pretty good.  Feels identical to the other B&M's I've tried. And at £20 it's a bargain that couldn't be missed.

Likewise...the original came off just fine. I did try to install the one that came with B&M, but I couldn't get it on without excessive force, so I just put the original back in...
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.
