i have worked in electronics and also the automotive industries for many years .
Most people are very surprised as iphones and most electronics products today are quality made in china.

If you look most cars today are 100% reliable and have many parts made in china so saying that a radio would fail within weeks is rubbish.
probably the Appradio or most of it parts are manufactured in china in one form or another.

The only thing a  wrong with this radio is it  does not have a fancy brand name like jvc.
at the moment i have a cheap DAB car radio from a company called beat and it's a magic car radio for £80

So i like looking around for bargains without the £££'s   s:D :D s:D

I had something similar about 5 years back.. Usability lacked the finesse of big branded stereos but it worked and sounded ok.. At the time double din full touch screen pioneers and the like were close to 1k and I paid around £200 if I remember right.

They are probably better now that when I bought one... And once you get used to the controls alls good!

Good luck with it, fingers crossed you're not one of the many that has to stump up the cost of posting it back to China when it fails under warranty. Mine lasted 14 months.

Bye the way, don't tell someone their opinion is rubbish, it's as valid as yours, I've an awful lot of experience in the electronics industry, including a stint at Clarion.

I've recently fitted a pioneer app radio and am really pleased with it. Got the unit for £280 from amazon and it's really good quality, easy to use and fits perfectly.
Here's a link to a pic of it  l viewtopic.php?f=31&t=49228&start=30 l

So can someone tell me how an app radio differs to a conventional one ?............
Is it just the fact that all the functions are an icon on a touch screen ?
2004 Facelift in Crystal Silver (sub 30k)  with genuine bodykit,Precats out,Red Leather,Remus Dual Exhaust,Carbon Thresholds, vvti Badging on wings,TTE chrome fuel flap surround,Bridgestone Potenza REO40's ,Aerial override mode,RED Mohair roof, Bonnet and engine cover gas struts and a few other small internal tweaks :-)
And now... Mikes (my own) anti dash creak mod !

Hi Mike,

The touchscreen was certainly a big part of my decision to buy one.
However, it also allows the facility for u to download sat nav apps via the pioneer store. When u enter app mode u can surf the internet too. There are also music apps to arrange your tracks in etc.
I like the sat nav apps as it means its integrated into one system. The apps run via your smartphone.
What i would say is that u will likely need a good amount of internet download data included in your mobile contract.
The technology is certainly in its early stages but I can see it developing quickly over the next couple yrs.
only recently bought mine so i'm still working out its full capabilities.
Don't think its poss but i'm trying to work out if its poss to run normal apps (such as google maps) on the head unit.
Certainly v happy with mine so far  :-) :-) :-)

Humble pie time!
Have now sold my £200 Chinese Dvd DAB ipod GPS sat nav all singing and dancing double din eonon unit and bought a appradio 2.

The Eonon radio did everything i wanted but everything it did was ok ,adequate but never fantastic.

Sound quality was ok but the Appradio is so much clearer and the 1st thing i noticed

FM reception was poor to terrible

Dab reception was terrible ..... tried 3 aerials ... gave up in the end

Ipod control was ok ish!!!

Surprisingly the sat nav was very good .. i ran igo 8

So i must say that i should have listened and save myself a bucket load of time and money!   s:bowdown:  s:bowdown:

If we all did the same things every time then the world would be a boring place and new things would never be discovered.  s;) ;) s;)

How well can you read the screen with the top down?  I have thought about buying one one these, but have been put off by the effect of sunshine on my Tom Tom screen!
1MZFE, Emerald ECU, LSD, BC coilovers, custom middle & front under brace, F / R strut brace. Slotted discs & yellow pads, Blue flame exhaust.
Carrera leather seats, Davids bars, Focal subwoofer & voce speakers & bling !
TRD Stage 2 F & R spoilers,  Haltezza bonnet, C1 side vents, JDL rear panel

Visibility is poor at times with any of these screens when hit with sunlight
A must for these is a remote steering wheel control as these head units without knobs can distract you when driving when looking for volume etc.

i made my own up for my Chinese Head unit out of a corolla unit but had to mod the electronics

I now have a Sony RM-X4S. It's a wired "stalk" remote that i am going to run with the Appradio.

Agree, the pioneer i fitted in the Mrs 350z is hard to read with he roof down.

Good point about remote, hadn't really thought of it that way.
