They are alright.. Obviously wont be the best but for what you want it will be fine.. I do recommend changing the head unit as the quality of sound will be much much better and im not sure if standard stereo has rca outputs?

I've got a very similar one fitted, its on the floor behind the drivers seat.  It stops the drivers seat going right back but as I'm short it doesn't matter.  Easy to unplug and remove if required.  I've also uprated the speakers and head unit.  Sounds alot better than standard!

I have a Lanzar 8" one in the Rav4.....its very very good with a Sony headunit, mines rated at 600w so i'm not sure 160w would be that good tbh....paid around £80 for it a few years back.

 m http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lanzar-VCTBS8-A ... B001RJMN5S m

They can be wired from the speaker connections but using the RCA connection is easier....if you have no rca output you can buy speaker to rca adaptors for £7.

Doubt it will fit under the Roadster seat though so the cubby hole is the obvious place to fit it......you will need to run in a power lead,an earth,a remote wire and input rca lead from the head unit and they usually have a wired volume controller.

Happy to lend a hand in swapping out the head unit if you change your mind.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I've got the In Phase USW-10, very similar. Currently have it behind the passenger seat like Ems79 but on Tuesday it is moving below the steering wheel! It fits in there.
The improvement in sound was amazing

I fitted the Edge speakers and tweeters.  Just gutted the stock speakers to use as mounts.  I also used the flashing tape on the doors, I just followed one of the threads on here.  It makes a big difference to the standard seat up.  I've got a Kenwood double din head unit fitted.

Let us know if it fits, my origonal plan was to fit it under the dash but went for the easy otion in the end!  I didn't think I could squeeze it in under the dash.

The photo below is how mine is fits behind the drivers seat.  Seat is in the position I drive in, it slots under the seat a bit but the seat won't move back any further.  Excuse all the wires, I am going to shorten them once I'm happy with the location.  The sub comes with very long wiring, I didn't want to squeeze it all in behind a panel and trap them or pinch them.  There is also a remote for the level of bass which I have hanging under my stereo at the moment, works well as some songs need more bass, others less and its nice and easy to adjust.  I'll get another photo once its all tidied up in a couple of weeks.  Got a campervan project on the go to so have to switch between the two and campervan is taking priority as I need it ready for F1 at Silverstone!!

I know it fits for sure. I actually had the panels off and held it in the position I intend to put it in. It's not even too snug. Plenty space. There are a few handy mounting points down there too. Just need to make a bracket of sorts.

Now it is currently suspended in mid air a bit, so my bracketing needs work. But currently I have this (below) and using some props to stuff it into place while absorbing any vibrations (sponge and furniture floor pads hahah...don't mock, it works). It's not in the way of the pedals, so perfect  s:) :) s:)
Haven't actually confirmed yet whether the panel can go back on haha. Still doing a bit of wiring

Full bracket on the woofer

Would this one be better then? Seems like an awfully good price considering the power output....

Looking forward to it.
One thing to listen out for is delay in bass. I've noticed this sometimes on my woofer. One of those things you never hear about until you experience it. The bass can be delayed due to the time it takes to drive the woofer. In 90% of the songs I listen to this isn't noticeable, but sometimes you do hear it.

So I'd be keen to know about this one:
- Any noticeable delay?
- Any distortion, or just clean bass?
- General quality
- Wiring quality

Well, it arrived yesterday and it's certainly a solid heavy lump  s:D :D s:D
I was originally thinkkng of powering it from the stereo live feed, but the instructions say a direct feed from the battery with a 25 amp fuse!! Opinions/advice on that one please.
I won't be fitting it until next week, only 1 night off this week and that was last night  s:( :( s:(

25 amp...nice. That's quite high so it would indeed have to be powered straight off the battery.
I think the USW-10's in-line fuse is about 15 amp. In any case, anything internal with more than 10 amp should really be connected straight to the battery.

There are subs like this that run off 10amp, so you can connect them internally (cig lighter socket or something). Makes it a lot easier, but they're generally less powerful.

It's a thin box as well, so I wonder how the bass is

Just buy a wiring kit off Ebay for a sub or amp. You'll get a few bits you don't need probably but you will get the fuse, the RCA cables, power and ground cables and some connectors etc.

Ring connector on the power cable and the fuse fitted in line, connect to battery terminal, thread through a grommet into the car and route the wire. Not difficult once you get a handle on it.

Well, got there in the end. After quite a bit of messing about with the wiring, I got severely p****ed off with the OEM head unit! I don't think it's capable of driving a Sub at all  s:roll:  s:roll:

I bought myself a Sony WX GT90 BT, having checked a few out and seeing Markb's pic of his, and thinking that staying Sony would make everything easy (apart from needing a wiring adaptor after all, another £15  s:roll:  s:roll:  ).
Long story short... sounds good, no noticeable distortion or bass delay, good heavy build quality. Only wiring included was control wire to connect boost control, and a short harness for splicing into speaker wiring. (Bought a decent quality wiring kit from Halfrauds for about £28, and yes, I know I could have got a cheaper one elsewhere but it was good thick heavy cables and everything was in there, plus I was in the shop looking at HU's).
Box is quite big, will never fit under seat or behind dashboard. For now, I've got it behind my seat giving the advantage of a nice lower back massage when Lemmy   s:bowdown:  s:bowdown:   starts giving it some   s:D :D s:D
Not as loud as I was expecting, but maybe I had my sights set high, or I've set it up wrong. I don't know anything about these things (I'm sure I mentioned that somewhere!) but it does overcome the problems of trying to listen to music with the roof down  s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:

Good stuff. Sounds like it's worth the low price then. If you're short enough to put it behind the driver's seat or hardly ever carry passengers  s:) :) s:)  Mine was behind the passenger seat for months.
You can splice it into the stock unit, but (unless your woofer already does it) you would benefit from putting filters in between so that your woofer doesn't try to put out higher pitches. It's a bit of a pain as well. Best to replace the head unit reckon. Sound quality is so much better with a better head unit anyway

How did you end up fastening it to behind the seat?
...neutiquam erro.

Fin

#23
Errrrm, about fastening it hmmmm... I know that will improve the sound, but at the moment it's just leaning against the bulkhead. I sit with with my seat-back right up against it, so it won't be going far. It does come with plastic screw-on feet to fasten it down, and I will use them once I am 100% happy with the position.
The new head unit definitely improves the sound, the sub makes it more 'complete' (for want of a better way to describe it).
The good thing (for me), is that it sounds great inside the car, but you don't drive down the road with everyone laughing and pointing because of the stupid 'whump-whump-whump' noise   s:D :D s:D

The Sony WX GT90 BT can run a sub by using ONE rear channel if not using rear speakers..........OR if you fit rear speakers the unit has a rear bass enhance feature which turns the rears into subs.....not earthshaking but not bad at all tbh.

I did the latter with some old Pioneer 6x9s i had in the garage, fitted them in the rear cubby hole......happy enough with it although i might fit one of the powered subs sometime as i have one in the Rav4 i really like.
