Would there be any difference in fitting a 'Performance Panel Filter' in the airbox... and filter is a filter isnt it?

Not three minutes ago I ordered the TRD panel filter from Fensport! I'll let you know on Thursday...

I should have a jetex one on thurs too. dont really care about the performance, I jsut needed a new filter.... but it would be nice to know if it will make any difference at all

I've got the K&N, I can't honestly say I can notice a difference but when I get a custom exhaust and have her chipped, then I will notice.... I hope

id say the stock panel filter restricts quite a lot of air from the already restricted air intake system. what material is the TRD one?

I have a K&N one in on occasions and don't notice any difference.

Once again, I'll let you know Thursday!   s:D :D s:D

...and that's only because I haven't got a clue. The only reason I went TRD is that I've mostly heard negative things about other filters, so I went for TRD as I've heard zero about it, and I'm happy with the quality of other TRD stuff I (and others) have brought in the past.

Maybe that's not the most sensible thing in the world to do, but that's how I made my decision. However flawed my logic may be.   s:wink:  s:wink:    s:lol:  s:lol:

IIRC the TRD one is foam, I have a Blitz one which is gauze, and I have to say I definitely notice a different between standard and the Blitz, especially in-gear flexibility.  Could be completeley phsychological though! Especially given the info I posted a while ago about the filter element being the least restrictive part in an OEM configuration

well, mine is in, cant say i notice a massive difference, although throttle pick up seems alot better now. Think it had the original filter in for 40k miles ago, a 'denso' one.

im a happy chappy now anyway

If you haven't already I'd suggest you get one of Marks inlet pipes, with the filter that makes IMO a considerable difference

My TRD one is in place now, although I haven't been able to give it a thorough test as my car currently has no tax...   s:oops:  s:oops:   ...until tomorrow!   s:D :D s:D

From what I've heard, the exhaust note is definately different: slightly deeper at high revs, I've lost almost all of the tinniness that the TTE exhaust used to have before I put the inlet duct in place. The duct helped loads, but with the TRD filter in place it's better still.

I didn't really feel it pull any harder, but then I didn't really have the roads to try it out on.

I'm still impressed though.   s8) 8) s8)

I think Tem dyno'd his car with and without the filter in place, and detected to difference in power. He'd have to confirm that though...

A definite must have is the H&S intake pipe, as it allows you to make the most of the existing intake tract by removing the stock restrictor..

Yeah, newish stock filter and no filter at all made no difference powerwise. And I bet that none of the free flow filters flow better than no filter  s:? :? s:?
(it did make a difference in sound though)

And who knows, maybe the stock filter is the bottleneck with that and you'll see a difference with freeflow filter  s8) 8) s8)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Presumably this was done on a rolling road Tem? I've tried runs with a Gtech on the road, locking off the inlet tract that feeds air from the passenger side vent, and it really hurts top end power. IIRC 4-5bhp.  I'm just thinking that if you don't have this influx of air on a RR you might not see the full advantage of a panel filter?

Right, I'm fully taxed now (I didn't realise that you can tax your car over the internet now!   s:shock:  s:shock:    s8) 8) s8)  ) and I've just been out for an extended run to really open the engine up.

I'm seriously impressed with the TRD filter/inlet duct combo now. I don't think there's any more power there (if there is, it's minimal), but when I stick it in 2nd and floor it, the power comes so much more smoothly, it's amazing! There's definately more 'growl' now, but it pulls so much better I wouldn't care if it sounded like an asthmatic hamster.

It was definately worth the money for those two mods.

A K&N filter pad and running on Optimax (don't shoot me down in flames  s:lol:  s:lol:  ) gave a dynoed 6bhp increase. Putting on the Hayward & Scott exhaust added another 3.5bhp (dynoed)

Whils i know it makes a difference, I would never have thought a filter alone would make 6hp?.  As i mentioned I blocked off the entire tract that feeds air into the engine from the side pod, and that affected it be 4-5 bhp at the most. Did you do a before and after on your car? or are you comparing to the standard 138bhp? Not saying its unacheivable, just curious!
