Upgrading stereo - do I need sound deadening?

Hi chaps - total newbie to ICE but my standard Toyota one sounds poo.

Just ordered a Pioneer FH-X700BT headunit (4 x 50W output)

About to order a Pioneer component speakers: Maximum input power 350 W, Nominal input power 60 W

I'm aware this is very much a budget upgrade compared to most but would it require sound deadening?

Many thanks

Sound deadening is more important when you have amps and subs involved but it will help the general audio performance (even with no equipment upgrades). As it's so cheap to do it's definitely worth considering (I need to get round to doing mine soon really, I've had the flashing tape sat here for over a year!).  s:) :) s:)

Since you're taking the door cards off anyway, there's no reason not to since flashing tape is only £10 a roll. I made do with one roll. It makes a difference.

What length and size roll Stu?
I had a roll of the 150mm stuff for ding day, but didn't end up using it as the weather was changeable.

just like to add, avoid applying the flashing tape on a hot day, I had to call for help, it took 2 of my neighbours to get me unstuck from the door using rubber gloves and broom handles   s:shock:  s:shock:

I did mine with Silent Coat (bought on amazon) just prior to fitting new speakers and head unit. I put it on the outer most panel (inside obviously) then blocked all the holes on the inner section and finally did the inner of the plastic door card. Improvement in sound quality before replacing any audio kit was very noticeable. The doors also close with a much less harsh and more deadened sound now too - loads better! Would definitely recommend either this or flashing tape.

True, although also avoid too cold a day too as the adhesive doesn't always set properly. On my Mini we had to do the entire interior in the middle of December and ended up having to heat gun each strip to get it to stick properly and even then the edges came up after a while.

10m x 100mm roll IIRC. Could easily use another half roll once you get started. Happy with what I've done though - still have some reverb on the door car & will need to look at some silicon on the fasteners.

It all started with that incident with the Easter bunny, 3 tins of golden syrup and some unfortunately place Cadbury mini eggs.  s:shock:  s:shock:

Just to add:

YES
- you should sound deaden! The doors in the '2 are made from aluminium foil, it would seem and resonate like a biscuit tin, running the sound. A bit of flashing tape as per above, will add mass and stop it ringing like a bell.

Any upgrade will be vastly superior than the stock 10 penchant speakers and ancient head unit. Don't apologise!  s:) :) s:)
