Has anyone here ever installed one themselves? I have one sitting around ready for when I fit a turbo, but I was wondering if it was worth fitting, but not actually plugging it in until I'm ready.

Just one less thing to worry about if I can fit it in my own time, while the car is running in n/a mode.

Hi,

I've got one lying around too which I'll be fitting soon.  s:) :) s:)

Several people have had these (there are even some map downloads in the reference section) so a more knowledgeable person will probably pipe up.

However, as I understand it you can't leave these fitted and not powered up as the harness actually splits some of the signals rather than passing it through.

If you are splicing it into the stock harness you will definitely need to go the whole way and run a map on it. If you have a boomslang harness it's basically plug and play so you can reinstate the stock setup by fully disconnecting it should you need too.

I've decided just to leave mine until all the mods are in, then I'm going to run one of the downloaded maps to get me to the tuners to set it properly.

If you can't wait, you could always fit it and load up a tame n/a map for the time being or run it flat without any maps active - just make sure its configured correctly for maf type etc.

Airflow and ignition are the only wires run in series that would require you to have the Blue plugged in and powered up at the other end, all the rest (injectors, rpm, power etc) are Tee'd in.

Not sure if you acquired the Blue from an ex-Mk3 '2, but double check your jumper settings before going live with it.

It was from a previously turbo'd Mk3 so hopefully the jumpers are all set, I have the entire loom from the old car but not looked at it properly yet. Hopefully I have everything, it's all spliced in.

I think I would prefer plug and play. Where is the best place to buy this boomslang cable?
