Massive Lag

<disclaimer> OK, before I start, I will point out that I have searched & found several threads about this subject....but....not to this extreme. Therefore I am going to ask away. <disclaimer>

Friday = Apexi Air Intake fitted & MAF cleaned.

Saturday = 2 ran normally.

Sunday = Battery disconected for 1 hour to reset ECU. Drove fine although only on very short journey.

Today = Drove fine to work but at dinner time eratic revs (near stall to 2000 rpm) & a massive lag in second & third gear that could be counted between 2 to 3 seconds (press accelerator - 1001 - 1002 -1003 - off we go). Driving home lag was still quite noticable but 2 didn't miss. Revs almost at stall point (less than 500 rpm)

Question   s:?: :?: s:?:

Worth reseting the ECU again as it seems to be eratic or let it go for a few days & see if it settles down   s:?: :?: s:?:

Nothing to technical please & don't go asking me to look for things in the engine area   s:roll: :roll: s:roll:    Basically, keep it simple.

That aint normal, ECU reset or not. Check your MAF again and make sure nothing on the apexi has come loose.. Its a definite fault.

I concur with Grant - there is almost certainly an air leak post MAF - Adam was having a similar problem with the 2ZZ at JAE due to a vacuum pipe coming adrift (well actually it hadnt been connected but thats another story  s;) ;) s;)  ).

JAE seemed to be the place for vacuum leaks to become apparent as Martin arrived with his boost gauge not registering any vacuum at idle, and only partial boost under load. Coupled with eratic idling (exactly as described), that was also traced to a split vacuum hose.

Cheers for the info. I checked & tightened all Apexi fittings on Sunday afternoon as both of the bracket bolts / screws had worked loose. I will have a look over the pipes tomorrow in the day light & check for splits.

Very strange indeed. Checked all pipes today & nothing wrong. Eveything secure & in place. Driving to & from work today was fine but with just a little drop in revs every now & then when stationary.    s:? :? s:?

Will have a proper play at the weekend & see what happens. Then i will report back for future reference.

I had exactly what you had a month ago, I looked of the engine bay and found nothing wrong.  It happened again a day ot two later and hasn't happened since.  I think it's because you reset the ECU, i recon the engine is learning to adapt with your driving style and this low idle is part of the ECU programe.... but then maybe i'm wrong and am talking rubbish!    s:lol: :lol: s:lol:
