I've not tried one in an MR2 before, but I have used something similar on a Focus.  Took it out after about a month and put a DAB head unit in instead.  It was much easier to use a head unit with DAB already built in, and it was a much tidier installation.

Sounds like it's probably better to get a new head unit then.

Are you talking about the £50 one? Was ideally looking for a double din unit to fit in the space.

Sorry, yes I saw some single din ones. There was a Phillips with dab, iPod control for £59 - but single din

This dab ipod headunit is only £49 and tomorrow 12-2pm halfords have a 10% off everything , making it £45. Single din, but a bargain nonetheless

Ah, missed that deal, although a single din may be an idea, save a lot of money and don't think we really need a double din, just thought it would look better.

Good spot mate! Think I might pick one up. I only listen to crackly radio and stuff on my iPhone at the mo and fancy DAB.

As it's a built in DAB UNIT, does anyone know if you have to do some crazy aerial stuff or can I just swap this into my single din slot?

You will either need a windscreen dab aerial or an inline adaptor to utilise the standard aerial.

I fitted a windscreen mounted one on the 350z and it's very good.

Edit to say I chose that for the 350z because it has an amplified aerial which is no good for the adaptor.

Nice, I'm going to go over the road at lunch to the local one and have a look at it and make the call.

I notice to you get a 'free' adaptor with it that goes in the back. I'm a bit confused as the info from Philips is a bit vague. Is this 'adaptor' actually the bit that enables you to use a DAB antenna, or does it perform the same task as the in-line adaptors you mentioned and mean you can then use your FM antenna as a dual band?

I was mulling it over last night and my current head unit has been fine for putting my iPhone through (the 3.5m aux jack) but the radio is shocking. It would be nice but I'm just not sure I can be bothered with the hassle of re-routing another antenna.  s;) ;) s;)

to clarify, the headunit is DAB ready but does not have a built in DAB tuner, the adaptor is the dab tuner effectively. Its a very small black box. To be honest, if you are nto sure, buy one and if you don't want it you could sell them both on ebay / forum and probably make a bit of money; certainly get your money back.

If you get a splitter for the aerial, which I have done, you maintain the current aerial but it acts for both the DAB and the FM signal. So no cable routing...if you already have an aftermarket radio is should be a case of just swapping over (providing you fitted your last one nicely!)

Fitted mine. Stunned for the price - I'd be well chuft if I paid £80, or even £100 - so for £42 I'm well pleased.

Also, because it's deckless, it's about 1/3 of the weight if my old Alpine, so I'm claiming it as performance enhancing too! Haha!  s:D :D s:D
