I unlocked my car, I think it auto-relocked??? because i didnt open a door.. anyhow the alarm was on..

I washed the roof with a sponge and it set the alarm off..   surely this is not normal behaviour?  would wind set it off too then? or is it proximity detector not ultrasonic?

Proximity would make sense without a roof lol, is it fine to set the alarm with the roof down then too?   sorry newb questions, i've not really looked into this as its normally garaged overnight anyway.

It auto relocks after 30 seconds if you unlock it and don't open the door, pretty much any car does this.

Alarm going off is normal if you push the roof down when you're washing it ('fat' cats set mine off too). You're fine setting it with the roof down, the alarm would most likely only sound if you were to put your hand inside the proximity of the car.

Thanks.. at least im not going loopy,  i usually dissable auto lock functions.. they have a habbit of getting your keys locked in the car... guess i'll just be careful not to somehow get them inside without opening the door..

My first pet was called Fat cat  s:D :D s:D  lol..  she did like her food...

My understanding is one click of the lock button is normal alarm set, two clicks is alarm set and deadlocks and three clicks is for when you have the roof down.

I did the same with mine this weekend.

Auto locked the car and then started to clean the roof.......off went the alarm. The thing that made me laugh was that my wife and kids didn't even hear it yet they can always hear me reverse onto the drive!
