The front of my car is covered in bugs from my jouneys to and from work every day and they're A120 bugs (famously renound for being impossible to clean off!) and I'm having trouble shifting them!

I've tried Turtle wax bug & tar remover which I must say is total c**p, it didn't remove one bug!

Other than spending 2hours outside cleaning my bumper every weekend is there anything anyone can recommend to me to make my life easier?

Thanks

Not sure how severe your bug problem is, but I`ve always found a sponge wrapped in a string mesh does the job quite nicely. You can pick `em up from Halfords.

Yep, Halfrauds bug sponge is the best about, bugs don't stand a chance!

I always find good old car shampoo, scalding hot water and elbow grease does the trick, even if i've not washed it for a few weeks

Autoglym Tar remover gets rid of bugs sharpish, wouldn't use loads of it though! Also a hand held steamer gets rid of everything brilliantly!

I pressure wash, then scrub and the really nasty ones get wiped out with the tar removing gear.

Autoglym tar remover is the best stuff to get rid of dried on bugs but after you have done it give it 2 coats of autoglym polish and one coat of autoglum super resin and it is much easier to remove them in the future

I was talking to a valeting blokey the other day and asking him the same question... he's got all the scrubby sponge things and various gunk but also had some special clay stuff. He gave me a demo on the front of his van and it was amazing - no elbow grease required at all. It looks like a lump of plastecine (sp?) and you just wipe it over the unfortunate beastie. Am gonna have another word and find out it's proper name and where I can get me some - will let you know.

Is that not that meguiars clay that Rusty recommended a while back??

I know the stuff he was using wasn't meguires but it sounds similar. I've tried alsorts til now... soaking them off, scrubby sponge thing, fancy wet-wipes, and of course Autoglym Tar remover (only right & proper for the Autoglym queen y'know  s:wink:  s:wink:  ) but this clay bar thing beats the rest hands down. gotta get me some!

Washed mine the other day and found something very odd glued to it..

Spider eggs!

Dayumn those things are hard to get off now they've welded themselves to the paintwork  s:( :( s:(  I also now have a large family of spiders living in my car (that even a jetwash didn't get rid of, they just retreat into the nooks & crannies!). D'oh.

Anyway, I digress - claybars can give a great finish, but do require a bit of patience.. if I ever find somewhere that sells them over here, I might just invest..

hmmm, dunno about that - when he showed me how to use it and let me have a go it was definately the quickest, easiet, less fussy method I've seen - you just literally wipe it over the little blighters and off they come. Will try and speak to him about then in the week and find out who sells em and how much.....

I got  my Meguirs Quik Clay Detailing kit from Demon Tweeks. It consists of a clay bar and some high efficiency cleaner - you spray it on and then rub with the clay bar. Whats most amazing is the amount of contaminanats the clay removes even after a really good wash. It leaves the paintwork totally smooth and glass like ready for a quality wax - i used Meguiars Gold Class wax paste and the results were jewel-like! Can't recommend it highly enough. I know a company called Swissol also do clay bars. They're basically like a bar of Blu-tak that basically pulls any contaminats fromt the paint surface.

True - but they tend to take everything off.. so then you have to polish & wax the car again..  s;) ;) s;)

I've always done that...I don't aim against the surface though, but sideways. That's very easy for the paint, but washes the bugs off without any issues.
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Maybe all of you doing a lot of motorway driving should invest in one of those bra's from the US.  It also stops stone chips.

I use baby wipes, make sure you get the unscented ones unless you want your car to smell like a babies bum!   s:wink:  s:wink:

If you wax it with Swissol though they just wash straight off.

Also available from Speeding.co.uk for £12.99 incl. delivery.  Claying your car is a very worthwhile exercise - however, make sure you keep the clay well-lubricated or you will scratch the paintwork!!

I use the normal Autoglym shampoo and it works for me  however, a friend who had a big trouble removing bugs on his Impreza, suggested soaking a towel in warm-to-hot water and covering the bugged area with it for 5 mins.  Apparently, it works miracles.
