Hi all,

Just thought I'd post this on here for posterity. A while back my electric aerial started grinding away when it tried to reach its furthest extension. As suspected the toothed coil had broken down inside and so I bought a cheap oem replica jobbie off ebay for £20. Took apart the old motor to fully remove all the old broken bits and gave it a clean up (was full of what I can only describe as thick gunk), then I spent some considerable time trying to get the replacement to work, but despite it being sold as specifically for the Roadster I just couldn't get it to work satisfactorily, it extended and retracted fine, but would grind away like the old one at the top of its cycle.

I noticed the ebay one had a much longer plastic toothed coil than the original one, so I cut it to size, but no difference when refitted. I eventually gave up, disable the aerial, waited for my next pay packet and swallowed the £60 cost of a new Toyota one which I got from CTP (who I might add have been very helpful with various bits I've been after since getting the Roadster, great service, no affiliation, just a happy customer).

Anyway, I put the Toyota one in with some trepidation half expecting the same result, but bingo, worked first time no fuss! Not sure why this is and I'm not saying the ebay one won't work for you, just didn't work for me! Other observations are that the Toyota one is much heftier than the ebay one, the aerial material is thicker gauge making it much less flimsy that the ebay one I bought AND the plastic toothed coil has much more pronounced teeth on the Toyota one.

Binned the ebay one and can now once again listen to Radio 2 on my drive into work, yay!
