Scuff plates

I noticed along the edge of the scuff plates where they meet the bodywork it seems to have marked the paint and a tiny bit of corrosion has started underneath.  Also around the holes the clips go into.  Going to rub it down and fix it but wondered what might be good to prevent it coming back?  Some of that clear protection film perhaps?  Anyone else seen this?
