Well........... After a trip down to Southamton, the 2 has been making some very perculiar sounds.

Inevitably, after a check from my local mechanic it looks as though she needs a serious rebuild!!!!!

So now i'm thinking of slapping a turbo on and replacing all the necessary parts and/or swapping engines for a celica lump!?!?!?  But i'm not too clued up in regards to engines so i come to you guys for some options/suggestions!

Budget wise, it's going to hurt me either way. So, i'll leave it open (nothing over £3000)

Cheers guys

Scary to hear about so many engine failures...   s:? :? s:?

Sorry about your engine.

When I discovered my pre-cats were going south, I thought my engine would soon follow... (fortunately that didn't happen - fingers crossed!)

At the time my plan was to claim against Toyota (in a justified way as it would have been due to a design fault and no fault of my own). Maybe you could try that one?

If that wouldn't have worked, I would have looked for a 1ZZ (or a 2ZZ) engine unit from a salvaged MR2 (there's bound to be a few crash damaged '2s -- preferably with only the front end damaged and a perfectly sound engine.) [edit: some guy in France bought a perfect 1ZZ for I think around 600 pounds.] Then I would have tried to fit it in myself (cheapest and most *interesting* option) or by a mechanic (someone who could do the job on the weekend / black)...

I gathered that fitting a duzzy (2ZZ) engine is quite a lot more involving than with an 1zzy. You may also have some issues with the insurance. However, it would definitely be rewarding (the duzzy is a screamer!)
