Flex Primer and Black Paint

Can anyone tell me exactly what i need in the way of primer for my side vents?

I can get a spray can of the black from Halfords, will they do primer also?

You can (probably) get plastic paint in spray cans that have the flex primer mixed in. I've used one and it seems to hold on just fine  s8) s8)

halfrauds do plastic primer in white or grey, works fine as long as you key the surface with wet and dry first

I asked what i need from amdpaints who seem to carry this stuff and they suggested:

Uni-fine polyester filler  380g  (to fill in dimples) 2.80                                
 
Plastofix adhesion promoter 400ml (to ensure adhesion to plastic)  £5.85  
 
Acrylic Grey Primer 500ml    £3.45
 
Custom mixed colour   400ml  £12.00
 
Acrylic Lacquer 500ml (Only used over basecoats)  £3.66

What does anyone think? sound alright?

I'm sure you can get the job done with those...and you will also have the most expensive pre facelift sidevents  s:shock: :shock: s:shock:  

Those are £27.76...and some amount of work to get it right. Are you sure you wouldn't rather get the 03+ sidevents?

I like the idea of trying something slightly different; I also don't really like the idea of putting post 03 visual points on my pre 03 car.  Finally I like the idea of trying to do this, I've never really made anything with my hands before.  Its kinda fun.

Plus I got the vents at a really good deal (thanks again to Adam) and I'll still have stuff left over if I feel the need to do anything else like this on my other grey bits.

Adhesion promoter is basically spray glue which is what the profesionals use rather than plastic primer which I used on my plastic grills and it works fine
Did not bother with primer as was told to put top coat straight on to the adhesion promoter

So the project starts!

So far I've clipped off the lattice and filed down one of the sides (the side nearest the car), It looks like it might be quite hard to get it smooth on the other side due to the way the lattice connects to the rest of the vent.

Slow and steady is the way.

It also means that small animals may enter my engine compartment, getting a bit of a shock once i start driving.

The paint and stuff comes on Monday!

It's all now sanded down, looks alright too,

Then i tried applying body filler to smooth out the wholes (and the odd scratch id made in the surface).

Lesson ~1 Never try and use body filler indoors.  I made the mistake of thinking doing next to an open window would be alright. it wasn't.  There's some nasty stuff in there.  Burning lungs, headache, nice.  And that's with using the filter mask and rubber gloves that my gf brought back from work for me.

Now to sand down the body filler, and possible apply a "skim layer", then onto primer and paint!
