Hi,
just joined and hope someone out there can help. My wife's car is a 2003 roadster which she has owned for 4 years. Recently we had a problem with the standard radio. The radio had been working fine but developed a fault. It powers up and cd and radio are working but the larger door speakers at first worked intermittently and now don't work at all. The small door speakers are still working. I have just purchased a second hand unit from eBay and fitted it in the car thinking that the fault may be in the radio but the new unit is exactly the same.

Both fuses are ok and I didn't think it seemed like a fault with the speakers as the small speakers are working and sometimes the larger speakers would work.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there anything I could try.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Gary

I think the wiring goes from the headunit to the main speaker, which has a basic crossover in it and then onto the small tweeter.  If you are getting sound out of the tweeters then it sounds like the wiring is OK.  Possibly the crossovers are shot or the speakers.  Either way replacement of the main speakers is probably the best option.

If you do a search on here there are plenty of threads about replacing the speakers.

Probably best to be absolutely sure, by using a multimeter to test wiring from headunit to speakers.

Follow the wiring back from the radio, there MAYBE another wiring connector, check its pushed together correctly.

Other than that maybe try and wire an old speaker(s) up temporarily too see if they work.

Hi,

Thanks for your advice. Tried an old speaker and the large speakers need replacing. Have put in new units adapting the existing speaker surrounds.

Now all working ok. Should keep her indoors sweet.
