Hi All

Need to use your experience please.

I am installing a power amp in the frunk and need to know the best way of getting a 4 guage power supply from the battery to the amp.

Thanks

From the battery, go through the firewall where the main engine loom goes through, run the cable along the passenger side and into the funk via the bung in the footwell area of the bulkhead.

Word of caution, the frunk isn't absolutely water tight. Are you sure you want expensive electronics up there?

I have thought about the drunk as a safe location and realise there is an element of risk. Mine stayed bone dry all through winter, I am going to fit the amp to 4 rubber feet which will keep it an inch of the surface, it will be at least 4 inches from the bottom. It will only really be at risk from water landing on it from the top which I can't see happening. I am also going to place one of those caravan dehumidifiers in the frunk in the winter to soak up any moisture.

Will also be sealing it as best I can so fingers crossed.

Thanks

I'd of thought most amps would fit under the passenger seat... There is a good amount of room under there. dryer and easier to run the cables to. And better to set up the gains whilst sat in the car.

I am sure a smaller amp could fit but this one is 17.8" long, 12" wide and nearly 3" high. It's a Rockford Fosgate Punch P8004 and I have high hopes that it will power my 4 6.5" components pretty well.

At least if I get the power cables fitted along the passenger floor area it would be easyish to relocate a smaller amp under the seat if the frunk proves to be a problem area.

Thanks

Ohhh now I understand why the funk,  that's a monster.
I don't think you need to worry if it will power your speakers, rockfords are known for being low ohm output amps.

Many moons ago when I was in the showing/sound off scene, I would only buy rockford gear. At one time I had 2 subs running off a 2x20 watt rockfords amp making over 130db. Massive watts are not needed for a loud install. There are lots of little tricks like running 2 speakers in a single airspace out of phase to each other so the air pressure forces more movement. (Double band pass box).
Sorry I'm waffling but the name rockford fosgate brings back memories.

Good luck with the installation and remember, right cable+good connections=low impedance =clear loud volume

Thanks and good advice RE cables. I was going to use the speaker cable which came as part of the amp wiring kit. It's poor quality so I have purchased so good quality QED speaker cable for him use which I will be using. The phono leads are also of dubious quality so these will be replaced with better quality leads.

Now the fun of getting cables into the doors especially now I have sealed every gap with dynamat!!

Poor planning on my part but where there is a will...

Thanks All
