Wife's mr2 wouldn't start this morning, starter motor turning over OK. I tried & had a quick look over engine bay, all connections OK. Had to go to work so this is secondhand info...

Rang Green Flag. Whilst waiting for them to arrive, my wife managed to start it. Strong smell of petrol, revs hunting a bit apparently.

Green Flag bloke turned up admittedly not much he could do but he said she had flooded it. Now I know she doesn't tread on the accelerator when starting, and she knows she didn't do that this morning. Any ideas what this could have been? She got to work OK in it.

Wild guess really...but if the spark was somehow missing, it would still dump fuel when starting...
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Sometimes if you try and start a car and it almost catches but you stop turning the key just before it does catch, it can flood it. I've seen this happen on a number of cars. What actually happens might be what Tem has described in that in the releasing of the key to early might stop the spark firing.

Dunno though, just something I've experienced before. Someone could probably give a better explanation if they've experienced it too   s:oops:  s:oops:

Mine took a bit longer to start very early one cold morning which had me slightly worried, but it has started up fine since no probs.
I had only left for about 3 hours, the air was moist and foggy when I left it but when I came back out it was very clear and cold out. I wouldn`t know if that had anything to do with it as my mechanical knowledge leaves something to be desired   s:? :? s:?

Thanks folks. I was hoping that no one was going to reply "Oh dear sounds like a knackered injection system/fuel pump" etc etc. Probably just one of those things. I'll keep an eye on it.

Mine didn't start after a few attempts yesterday...probably shouldn't say that seeing as i'm trying to sell it! Think it's because of the cold more than anything, at least it was in my case.  I'll have to put the rear drip tray back on!
