Speed bumps and alignment

Next thing...

Handling has been a bit hairier than normal. I know that the mr2 is sensitive to pressures/tyres etc and yes the pressures were incorrect and yes my rear tyres are rubbish Continentals but the back seems to be popping around to say hello more than usual.

My question is to owners who live in speed bump infested areas. Are these things knocking out your alignment? Our mr2 has to go over at least 10 daily. Are mr2s particularly prone to getting their alignment knocked out like this?

Will ATS/Kwik-fit do an alignment reliably or is it a Mr T job for peace of mind?

HI IMHO - No they don't seem prone to it.

I go over them everyday at work, had it track twice and both time, very little adjustment was required, I just wanted to make sure they where ok after running the first set of tyres out.

As for Cost - £49 will get you a full lazer alignment by MR T, at least this way you will know that it's been done to spec and they are working on Toyota's all day.

Hope you get it sorted, but sounds more like your standard of tyres more than tracking IMHO.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I have Continental sport contacts on all four corners of my car and they are pretty pants!

The previous owners must have thought they were good though (or cheap, more like it!  s:roll:  s:roll:  )

My car does under steer a bit when pushed hard and I'm pretty sure that it's because the tyre's aren't very grippy. Or it's my driving style!  s:oops:  s:oops:

Since I've fitted the member braces letting off very slightly makes the car turn in a lot more and cancel out the under steer - interestingly!   s:shock:  s:shock:  (I know this should happen anyway - it's just much more noticeable now...)  s:wink:  s:wink:

I had an interesting moment yesterday turning right at a set of traffic lights; I pulled away, began to turn and had to apply 1/2 a wheel of opposite-lock; I was only going about 15 mph, - so there must have been oil on the road. I still went to an empty car park to "check" that it wasn't the car though   s:wink:  s:wink:

Their only saving grace is that they have super soft sidewalls, so everything is very progressive, although initially a bit slow to turn in. I'm currently running stock tyre pressures and was considering bumping them up a couple of psi to see if this helps with the turn in (any thoughts, anyone??)

Anyway - I think I'd agree with Darren = crap tyres!

Unfortunately the rear one's are nearly worn out (funny - they weren't that bad when I bought it   s:twisted:  s:twisted:  ) - particularly the n/s tyre (roundabouts are fun   s:mrgreen:  s:mrgreen:   ) so I think I'll invest in some T1-R's or some GSD3's when the time comes   s:twisted:  s:twisted:

Sorry I've rambled rather a lot there - hope it helps!
