2ZZ-GE Conversion - Is this correct?

I'm thinking of converting the MR2 to a 2ZZ-GE early next year, I don't want to go overboard with the costs as this car will be a track car built with the idea in mind that its disposable should the worst happen. I've built some high quality track cars before, and although I used the cars hard on track pre-build as soon as the build was complete I was always a little wary about how hard I'd use it due to the money and effort tied up in the vehicle... hence wanting to keep the costs down on this one.

Anyway, the 'definitive' 2ZZ-GE post is not very definitive so I'm trying to clear a few things up; I'm wanting a minimal fuss conversion and so far this is the list;

- '00-01 Celica 190 Engine, Gearbox, ECU, etc from a running donor car.
- Limited Slip Diff from MR2.
- 6-Speed Gearbox Selector Mech from MR2.
- 2ZZ Engine Swap Mount.
- Exhaust Header.

------------------------------------------------

Wiring

I'll be altering the MR2 wiring loom to suit the 2ZZ-GE wiring myself, from what I can gather its a case of carrying out the following;

- Moving E03 from position C6 to A7
- Moving HT1B from position C8 to B16
- Moving OX1B from position C9 to B25
- Moving PS from position B25 to D28
- Remove HT2A from C5
- Remove OX2A from C21
- Add EC to position B12
- Add OVL- to position C6
- Add OVL+ to postion C7

Presume if I'm using a UK ECU I can just leave all the immobilizer wires? Do I just fit the Celica chip into my MR2 key?

Having not yet looked at the MR2 wiring, is there any reason why the Celica engine loom cannot just be used? Is the wiring on the MR2 a full one piece loom, or is there a separate sub-loom for the engine?

Engine Mount

Manufacturing this looks pretty simple, does anyone have the dimensions for it?

Gearbox

Obviously if you want to retain an LSD you need to use the one out of the MR2, does this require shimming when fitting or is it a straight swap?

As for the gear selector, do I just bolt my 6-Speed mechanism to the Celica gearbox, or do I have to still carry out further modifications to the selector itself?

Exhaust

Does anyone have any recommendations for an off the shelf header that bolts up to the remainder of the 1ZZ exhaust that won't restrict the flow of gasses? Failing this, I'm possibly going to bite the bullet and have a full system produced by a very good local specialist.

------------------------------------------------

I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but on the flip side if I go ahead with the project I'll be pretty much documenting the whole steps which should help future converters out.

Thanks.

You cannot use the Celica wiring loom as it goes inside the car and is a lot of hassle. Engine mount get your hand in your pocket and spend £30ish with Headcase for a well made one.Exhaust manifold have a chat with Headcase a little bird told me about a jig he had for a manifold. Pm Headcase im sure he will have a long chat about it with you. One thing I say to everyone is firstly get your engine in and all the wiring in place but not modified then connect it to the 1zz ecu and fire the engine up. That way you know your work is correct before you do any wiring mods. Unless you are 100% sure you have done everything correctly its the only way to do it. Remember the 2zz even with modified wiring will run on a 1zz ecu.

Headcase is indeed the man to answer all of the above questions and possibly see for some help.

Enjoy!

There are a few options for the exhaust manifold but anything that bolts to the standard 1ZZ system is going to strangle a 2ZZ. In my opinion you either go for a cheap ebay manifold and accept you'll be at about 170bhp or go for a full custom 2ZZ system.

I am looking to have a full exhaust build. With or without supplying parts. I would be interested in seeing how you set your car up  s:) :) s:)

Im going for standard road use  s:) :) s:)
