grrrr, its been in to mr t 3 times and they are just crap!, its not rocket science that if you dont test to see whether the problems been solved, theres no way of knowing. last time i rang and stated that i didnt want it back if it still rattled, i said again in the garage- test it before you give it me back, and i left printed instructions in the car stating that i wanted it tested before they give it me back, they had the car 9 hours, and when i went to get it they said they hadnt tested it because it was rush hour. what a joke!. toyota's reputation is a myth, the build quality is terrible, and it rattles like a 20 year old rover. I am not impressed, and im starting to hate driving it, as the rattles are seriously bad, im not into loud music and even if i was id still be able to hear them. it is going in this sat, and if its not fixed, i am complaining to there management- its rrg- so i expect something will be done, i will plaster the fact the service department is bad all over the internet, and also the fact that the mr2 rattles like a 20 year old rover. I will complain to toyota themselves, and basicly go all out to get them, untill its sorted. Not only can they not fix a mega rattle, but they also left a rachet in my car, left wires in places where there were bound to be more rattles. fitted a replacement seatbelt the wrong side of the car, and put a twist in it, so it wouldnt even pass an mot. And this is manchesters biggest toyota dealer. RRG.

Before you start threatening the dealership with "splashing their name all over the internet" can you please bear in mind that the club cannot and will not get involved in supporting individual complaints against dealerships or Toyota, so please do NOT use the club name in any correspondance with them

I wouldnt menction the club,- ive no reason to do so anyway. I just want the problem fixed!, ive had 12 year old nissan micras that didnt rattle half as much, and the reason im annoyed is because i have taken 2 half days off work to take it to the garrage, and theyve not even nearly sorted the problem, they havnt even tested to see if theyve mended it. and this is no little rattle, its embarasing. if they gave me 1 days pay, some petrol money, money spent on 4 taxis totaling £40.00 id be a tiny bit less angry.

So describe the rattles – what they sound like and where they come from.

The mega rattle comes from the back, im not sure whether its the plastic the deflector is attached to or the deflector, or other trim, it is a plasticy metal vibrating noise, thats not affected by potholes but rough tarmac makes it extra loud. Nothing i can get my hands to whilst driving stops it, but it is incredably loud, its the first thing anyone notices. also something above my head, or near the seatbelt rattles, but not as bad,- theyve replaced the seatbelt, and its still there. I think i need to drop the car in a vault of wd-40 that should fix it.  i'l make do until sat but if it comes back and the maga rattle is still there i'll flip. i dont care if it takes them 2 weeks to fix it.

If you fold your deflector down does it still make the noise?

I had a similar noise to what you describe coming from the plastic the deflector is mounted on. Went away when folded down. I put a strip of padded cycle handlebar tape along the back of the deflector mount and it hasn't been an issue since.

Do you have a hard top? If yes, did it make this noise before you fitted it? Without the hard top the body flexes slightly. When it's fitted, the body cannot flex and so the vibrations are the manifestation of this inability to flex.

It could also be where the centre latch locks the stowed soft top. I've put self-adhesive felt (Hobbycraft) in there to dull the sound.

And on my car the door panels vibrate. I cured this on my old car (I've yet to do it on this one) by removing the door cards and silicon sealing/taping anything loose on the reverse – including the white push/pull fasteners that actually attach the card to the door. I then put self-adhesive felt along the rear edge of the door card so that it is damped where it touches the metal of the door. The 'furry' black strip (along the top edge of the inside of the door card/bottom of window) which traps moisture is not fastened very well to the inside of the door and so vibrates. Metal tabs hold it on and on my old car these were not bent sufficiently to hold this strip tight and still. I also Dynamatted the inside of the door. These solutions will only make sense when you have the door card off!  s:wink:  s:wink:

I personally prefer to try and sort these problems myself. No one knows the car like I do and no one else would be bothered to investigate the various noises as thoroughly as I would do.  s:? :? s:?

Also check the nuts that hold the wind deflector to it's hinge bar.  My old '2 rattled like hell, and this turned out to be the culprit.  As I found it a week before it was traded in, I didn't bother to fix the problem,  but it could be as simple as tightening the nuts up.

Other causes for rattles are the drip tray coming lose or the "PULL" badge to release the roof.

had the pull handle and deflector ones myself.

i used a small blob of bathroom clear sealant on the pull handle and just tighened the deflector mounts, which by the way have virtually no locking on them so you may want to use a little threadlocker

I am 100% pathetic at anything diy, i can barely use the toilet,- so i'll just hope they fix it tomorow,- if not i'll try myself, but i'll prob blow myself up in the process somehow.  Thanx for the help, i am preying to the rattle god, that if he fixes the car, he can make my sisters car rattle all he likes.

Well, Slidey, that's a perfectly understandable statement. Many of us grow up without the experience of building a car from scratch with dad, or putting together satellites from hobby kits. Thing is, once you buy a sports car, you gotta start learning.

"But this is a Toyota, man, it's not supposed to have any problems."

Not sure I'd go that far. Compared to an old British roadster, the Spyder is a veritable German tank. Yet it's still a high-performance car in a small package and there's a lot of maintenance and general repair that's worth doing yourself. Just be sure to have the correct tool for each job so you don't break anything.

i hope i don't come accross as callouse or uncaring but, it's a roadster!!!

it doesn't have a top......it will squeak and rattle for as long as you own it....if you want zero noise buy a lexus......

little niggly mechanical quirks are part and parcel of roadster ownership.....

It's also really quite light, so it will tend to rattle.

Dont like to alarm anyone but mine was rattling before it caught fire and exploded......think its a different sort of rattle though. Mine sounded like a bag of spanners thrown in the 'zorst
