Dinitrol Underseal

I had mine undersealed at Preserve & Protect in Johnston (west of Glasgow).

They give it a proper steam clean, use the Dinitrol rust converter on all exposed rusty parts then fully underseal with the Dinitrol treatment. He also injects all the cavities with the correct Dinitrol formula. Quite delighted with the results & subsequently lacking worries when I take her out for a blast on the very salty roads like we had today.

As well as the underseal I asked Mark to treat the power steering pipes & he uses a different treatment for that which he bought in.

It's not a cheap job but it's another worry off my mind with the car.    s8) 8) s8)

Looks like a good job- do you mind me asking how much it cost and how long it took to have done?

Yes.

I replaced the subframe last year & bought a can of Dinitrol & did the subframe myself at the time. Mark did it again as part of the treatment. Pic below of one of the cavities being done

It was £475 & took them two & a half days. It's more expensive than Waxoyl but it will last longer & doesn't drip in the heat.

Mark also said he would consider a 10% discount for group buy if there were 10 interested - didn't need to all come along at the same time. I wasn't sure if that was really viable on here since he's rather isolated in terms of the membership demographic on mr2roc. But if there is interest...

I suppose it depends on how much abuse your car is likely to take on the roads. I'm hoping to get at least 5 years out of this treatment before I have to think of taking it back to Mark for an inspection. There's some info on Dinitrol's pages such as FAQ's & a comparison against Waxoyl

I could definitely be tempted. Did they remove and replace plastics?

In a word, yes. I had a chat with him beforehand as the frunk plastics & front nappy would need removing in order to do the power steering pipes.

I ought to say that I negotiated getting the work on the power steering pipes done for nowt since I would give him a plug on here. That aside. I wouldn't have done that if I had thought the job was other than excellent.

I got a quote from there 2 weeks ago to test against Stewart's, It was competitive and I've since had a chat with one of the bosses. Thought I'd give it a go myself and then see what could be arranged. Have to wait till after the Scottish trip in April though.

I was contemplating having done. Got a quote from the guys at Waxoil. To have the work done in  a depot in Leeds was going to be £395. I asked lots of questions and was not completely convinced by his answers. I wanted to see the garage in Leeds pre booking, but he didn't seem to want to give me that info until I booked it in.

So is my mechanic. "I hate that black sh!t"

I haven't told him yet. On the plus side, I've replaced suspension, subframe, all the brakes, handbrake cables, steering UJ, & had the crossbrace all fitted before the Dinitrol treatment so fingers crossed he's not going to have to encounter much of the "black sh!t" in any future works.

Just had my 04 plate done by Ultimate (Dinitrol) in Bellshill. Got my 1st Mk3 Waxoyled a few years back but never again...horrible stuff and it actually melted and dripped on my driveway from hot areas round the exhaust manifold!  s:twisted:  s:twisted:   Think Dinitrol is much better and the guy who did mine sees to have done a really good job. Apart form undersealing, all door cavities, sills, bonnet and boot lid were injected, very thorough. Annoyingly there was oversparay round doors and sills but came off quite easily using white spirit and microfibre cloth.  I'll go back and get it checked out in 12 months so jury's out. Comes with 6 year warranty, like that. Actually there was virtually no rust to proof, she's only got 20k on the clock and previous owner only ever drove it in the summer and kept it a garage with dehumidifier, but its all about peace of mind I guess...

Ultimate Waxoyl Treatment"

I thought it was a touch expensive, and now reading this topic, it seems waxoyl melts near the exhaust but dinitrol doesn't.
I'm in two minds now...

Seems that waxoyl is the inferior product - Dinitrol is the way forward.

I sprayed my subframe years ago with Dinitrol Cavity Wax Protection - did inside and outside.  I was amazed last week when at Steve's D1 Customs to see this when we took the nappy off.

No sign of rust whatsoever.  The subrame has now been sprayed on top of this with Hammerite underseal containing Waxoyl, so it should be good for years to come.

I bought some cans of it from Amazon a few years ago and sprayed it on any mildly rusty bits and it has worked really well. Not sure if mechanics working on your car like it much though!

Thread revival anyone used a company in Yorkshire for this ?

I don't know about Yorkshire but, seeing as how the thread has been revived, I too got my car done by Preserve and Protect (in fact, I've had 2 cars done by them).  They do an excellent job and it was worth the journey.  They really know their stuff.  Not particularly cheap (but a fair price) and I know it's been done properly.

I know that Yorkshire to Glasgow is a bit of a run but if you can't find anywhere else, N. Yorks (at least - not sure where you are) to Glasgow isn't that much farther than I drove to get to P&P even though I'm based in Scotland.
