Hi there, fitting a new head unit tomorrow with bluetooth handsfree. Where have people fitted the mic? I've seen a couple of suggestions on here but wanted to try and gather all the info in one place.
Bring forward your experiences please. Ta.

Mine is next to the headunit under the steering wheel.

Given choice I'd put it by the rear view mirror- but I didn't want to take the dash apart to hide the wires. Turns out it works just fine where it is.

Me too.
Easy to hide the cables.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

The only issue I had with mine was trying to stop the wire for the mic coming out of the pillar once everything is in place. The gap at the edge of the pillar trim is too wide for the thin mic wire!

Went for the steering wheel hub in the end. Quite surprised how easy the entire install was. I still need to fix the usb socket in place but that isn't too important as I'll use bluetooth mostly.

Just had a new head unit fitted to my 2 this week (Pioneer Avic-f77). The installer fitted the mic just to the left of the rear view mirror, and the DAB antenna half way up the near side windscreen pillar. Both seem to be working perfectly.

Fitted a new Sony WX-GT90BT today and fitted great with no issues. I have fitted mic into the coin holder after drilling a small hole in it to feed wire. Think it looks nice and tidy.

I wonder how the reception is from that angle. It does hide it away nicely

The orange illumination on that Sony head unit, looks like a great match for the rest of the car. A nice looking unit.

You'll need all the normal things when fitting any radio into a japanese car.
Toyota to ISO adapter for the wiring. or hard wire it, there's a guide somewhere as I used it.
a surround for the front if you don't have PFL one from the factory sony model.
