Automatic door looking???

My last car had a system where the central locking activated as soon as the car started to move. The guys on the Ford Scorpio website  m http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/doorlock2.htm m  have devised a mod to do the same thing and I was wondering if there were any electrical geniuses on the site that might want to take up the challenge and possibly make themselves a few quid.

For me the "perfect" system would activate as the handrake light went out and de-activate when it goes back on again.

Anybody up for it?

hmm, that wouldn't seem to be ideal to me - leaves you vulnerable when stopped at traffic lights (unless you don't use the handbrake).

I don't use the handbrake but it's a good point. The reason for wanting automatic deactivation is because of the crap system that doesn't allow the door handle to deactivate the system so there must be a better way...

If you have a UK spec car, then the standard fit alarm can be programmed to do exactly what you are looking for - I believe the doors are unlocked when the ignition is switched off.

Speak to your local MrT.

BTW This subject has been covered recently - try using search to find what was discussed.

I did do a search and didn't find anything and I have a euro spec car but if you could point me in the right direction....

I'm picking up an 04 reg 2 on Tuesday.  When I asked the salemen at Sims Toyota if these cars had an autolock feature he first said no then said even if it did, as it's not standard on the UK models, they wouldn't activate it - anyone else tried to get theirs done and had problems?

I think I'll call the service department and ask them to do if you me anyway.

If I needed to do this I would tap a 12v relay from the handbrake light to the central locking switch to the right of the steering column.  If my memory serves me right this is a momentary switch so a little bit more circuitry would be required to get the right effect.

Once the handbrake is released, the light goes off and the relay coil de-energises.  The changeover contacts would in turn activate the opposite switch to lock the doors.

This is a simple explanation but goes some way to finding a solution.  Rob.

Picked mine up today and they've enabled the autolocking.  Now locks as soon as the ignition is turned on and unlocks when its turned off.  Happy with that as the door unlock/lock button is hidden behind my knee!  Dealer didn't charge either, which was nice   s:) :) s:)

There's quite a few features of the locking system that can be activated via a guide over at the SC library. You can have both doors unlock with one key fob push, etc. Oddly enough, most of us on this side o' the drink try to disable auto-locking (ever have to find that switch in the dark? grrrrrr).

i beleive that UK spec vehicles have a different system to the US spec cars, so that wont be of any use to us, the uk cars have the both doors unlock feature as standard, we also have a microwave interior alarm and imobiliser. If i remember rightly Mr.T has to plug a box in to configure the alarm on our 2's

i'm sure someone like Slacey can correct me if i'm wrong
