Thermostat change, any other parts?

I've had a search, but couldn't get a firm answer on this.

The MR-S is now taxed and mobile, and has only a few 'minor' issues. A slight exhaust blow, a fast idle and an open thermostat.

I've rear that a stat change is a pain (under the alternator?), but are there any parts other than a thermostat which I should be buying? A hose which is always knackered, an O ring which isn't supplied and is always perished, a plastic water elbow which crumbles to dust when disturbed...

And will I be removing anything which it'd be a good idea to renew 'while I'm there'. Pumps, belts or what not?

Cheers!

No idea but watching to find out. There's a YouTube video about how to do it, it does seem like a job for the determined

s:lol:  s:lol:   I'll let you know how I get on... Ordered a stat, a coolant sensor, and an auxiliary belt.

I'm planning to go in from underneath, the intake manifold seems to block from above, and I have some big ass axle stands.

How did this go in the end? Have stat, finding it hard to even believe the stat is where they say it is.

Hi, I have just changed the thermostat on my car, simply because I was doing a coolant change.  I thought it was Ok. The car used to take a while to warm up but never overheated. The thermostat that came out looks fine, wasn't stuck open. But, the difference in warm up time is massive. It used to take about 5 miles to warm totally and I though it was due to the amount of coolant, the distance it has to go etc. However now the gauge starts to move in less than a minute, and and it warms within a couple of miles. Oh and I had an airlock in the heater, cured easily by squeezing one of the hoses near the radiator once it was warm, and getting someone to give it a bit of a rev, forcing coolant through the heater. It is a pig of a job to do, but the results have been worth it.

It went well tbf. The steering pump, or ac compressor (it was a while back) needed swinging out of the way, but that was ok. Then typical slight awkward access but nothing terrible.

Aux belt was an absolute piece of  spiss piss spiss . I didn't bother with the sensor, the idle was traced to a shady IACV.

As above it now warms faster by a long shot and actually hits halfway on the gauge now.
