I'm removing my plastic engine cover to re-spray it... well trying anyway!  I started Wednesday night after work before I had to go to night class, thinking it would take 2 mins but I broke one of those plastic retaining screw things.  Is there an easier way?

I was thinking of taking the heads pretty much off the screws and then unscrewing them with the long nose pliers.  Does anyone know the part number for some new plastic screws?   s:lol:  s:lol:   Hopefully if someone has a more sensible method of cover removal please share!   s:) :) s:)

Once thats done I assume I only have to undo the 2 rear nuts/bolts.  Hopefully no other suprises!

Does anyone know what the plastic cover is made of?  If it is PP plastic I'll need to pop out and get the PP primer as my halfords plastic primer will be no good   s:? :? s:?  .

Once all done, a quick sand down to make smooth, then prime, spray and lacker!

I'm going with the same theme, well close, metallic black (maybe the perlecent metallic ford panther black, undecided!) Either way a blatent coarse metallic finish, with either metallic silver writing or a deep metallic red.

IIRC, the plastics are just caps and you have to pry them off. Then you'll find a 10mm nut beneath it, that actually holds the cover in place...
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Thanks for the info I have been looking at the plactic caps for some time and not found out how they come off without damage.  s:D :D s:D

The main dealer broke the plastic clips off when removing the cover, and didn't have any new ones (helpful!), so I just cut down to M6 roofing bolts, and used them instead - works fine !

The hidden two are bolts anyway, so can't see why the easy two are these rubbish plastic clips anyway !
