Wrap or Paint?

Hey guys,

Been looking around the internet for some inspiration and came across this 2:

What I like about it is the front lip and windscreen surround in black - I'd like to replicate it but also do it to the small rear lip on the back bumper.

My question is two fold:

1. Do we think this is painted black or simply some sort of vinyl wrap?
2. How hard is it to apply either paint or a wrap to the windscreen surround with the windscreen in place?

TIA  s:) :) s:)

-Mark.

Cannot help with your question, but agree looks good.
sitting lowered and no number plate spoiling the line.
stick on plates. It's the way forward.

It could be wrapped quite easily

If you want the parts made up drop me a line.... I have a vinyl cutter

I dont think the windscreen surround is what makes it.
Lack of plate and lowering is what makes the difference.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Everything helps tie it together, but I think you are right, the windscreen surround in and of itself is not what the eye is drawn to.

I have just ordered the Tein S springs for my silver 2, the wheels are being done satin black so thought I may try this to see how it looks.

The rear may not look quite as good as the lip is not as pronounced as the front however.

Bear in mind that wrapping the front lip like that won't last long. We had this done to our old CupraR and it had chips in it within a few weeks.
So, definitely paint that part. In fact, do it yourself. It's such a tiny area and it's going to be riddled with stone chips soon anyway so a total pro job isn't even necessary.
I did this on my pre-fl to some degree. I sprayed the dimpled bar and grille gloss black (as opposed to the dull black/grey it is stock) and it looked miles better. Did the same on the rear.

You can get the window sills wrapped in 3M gloss black though. That'd be cheap and last well.

EDIT: I lied. I sprayed the front silver hahaha, and refurned the wheels myself black as well with a fake powdercoat look  s:) :) s:)

Interesting, okay, good to know.  As it will be a bit of a track pig I should perhaps just do it with Duck Tape  s:D :D s:D

haha! Not a bad shout. If you wanted to be extra careful you could spray it black, with good prep (sand it down, couple coats of primer, few coats of colour, few coats of lacquer), let it cure for a few weeks
Then wrap it with gloss black, and make a template for the wrap. Cut out a whole bunch of them. That way, you can stick the wrap on (that section would be dead easy to wrap). If it chips, pull it off with a head gun and stick the next piece on for the next track day. That way day to day you can have the paint, and on track days it's protected by wrap  s:D :D s:D

That seems like an awful lot of effort Patrick.  Duck Tape it is!

I did exactly that with one of my previous mr2's. A simple can of spray paint and primer on the windscreen surround and bumpers, finished off with a few coats of lacquer.

I also did the wing mirrors. It lasted quited well, even considering the amount of track use it got.

The height of the car in your pic won't be possible with the widely recognised lowering springs (TTE, Tein etc) you'll need a decent set of coilovers to go that low.

Why not try plastidip spray paint.

Best of both worlds

Minimal prep required, 2 or 3 coats of plastidip matt black (can all be donne in situ) and then peel off when you're bored of it or it gets too tatty.

I have done this on my mirrors although it was my first ever go at spraying anything, so up close it's not exactly showroom finish!

Job done!
