prices

Hi all

can anyone tell if the extended warrenty prices have gone up??

i emailed my local dealer and they said 2 years unlimited mileage is £665.00

i'm sure on here someone put the prices as being £550 for two year which i think was taken of the toyota website.

how much has everbody else paid for their extended warrenty??

I was only offered 1 year, and that was £360.

I paid £545 for 2 years, in Nov 03, I know it has gone up but see that Toyota have removed a lot of the information and pricing about extended warranties from their website !!! Cheeky Monkeys !

I think I remember you can extend this till the vehicle is up to 7 years providing it has under 100k miles when you pay for the extension.

I plan to extend two more years I think when current extension runs out in November, as even if I sell the car I assume it is transferable, and would be a good perk to sell with the car.

Mine was purchased in November 2003 - Two years, unlimited Mileage for £540, well worth it - as my fellow above me has stated, you can purchased warranty upto 7 years - in fact when they sent me my paperwork out originally it was warrantied for 5 years!!! s8)

s8) cool ! but i informed them as I thought it might be invalid and they changed it back to 2 s:cry: :cry: s:cry:

Anyway - I've had about £5k worth of work done now, so £540 was a bargin !!!!

prices must have gone up then cos its now £665 for 2 years unlimited mileage.
I'm assuming its the same price from all dealers and it doesnt differ from dealer to dealer

do they let you take warrenty out even if you have had modifications to your car?? eg H&S exhaust?? obviously if i take the extended warrenty out i wont tell them about already gutting my pre-cats s:lol: :lol: s:lol:

Hi,

I spoke ot my father (who's been in the Motor Trade some time). As for the waranty going up, he calls it the burn rate, i.e. how many claims are being made.... seems they will have had quite a few off toyota recently !

As for you not declaring your mods, etc - that may be a mistake, if you spend £665, only to find they won't pay out because you didn't declare something.

Better to tell them, let them agree, then you are covered, else it's like car insurance, they will happily take your money, then find some reason not to pay out.

Only offering my advice, but it's worth considering before parting with your cash.

Don't forget, the extended warranty is not from Toyota, its covered by AON insurance, and is just an insurance policy, which Toyota take a commission on by selling through their dealers.

When I bought mine last it was just done on engine size, so an MR2 was the same cost as any other 1.8Litre Toyota.

Also, the difference between limited and unlimited miles was only about £30 last time ? So not really worth picking limited miles !

i will tell them about my exhaust but not about gutting my pre-cats cos if there was a failure they wouldnt know if they were gutted or just broke up.
anyway i doubt they would let me extend the warrenty if they though i had been messing around with the pre-cats

As it's offered as a warranty, I'd follow the same route as I do with toyota, in as far as I wouldn't expect them to cover something I'd tinkered with, or which my tinkering had damaged.

yes but the reason for me taking warranty out is to really to cover me against any future engine damage so i cant really tell them ive gutted the pre-cats cos then i'm assuming they wouldnt cover the engine

I suppose you've all seen this but I went into Toyota yesterday to ask about extended warranties and they gave me a booklet. If you follow this link heres what they offered me (prices)

I wonder why the prices are cheaper for cars with over 100K miles on 1 year extended mileage warrenties that ones with under 110K miles s:shock: :shock: s:shock: s:? :? s:? Weird s:!: :!: s:!:

The VERY small print says you get a lower level of cover, thats why its cheaper - probably doesn't cover the engine! s:shock: :shock: s:shock:

A lot of dodgy warranties don't cover consequential damage, so for example if your timing chain snapped, and it wrecked the head, the warranty would happily pay for a new timing chain to be fitted, but everything else would be down to you :-) :-) :-)

I'm not saying this is the case here, but it must be something like this which reduces cover.

Over 2 Litres is a big jump in cost !! Ouch !

Mr. T doesn't want to respect the prices from the booklet I posted. According to the dealer the costs increased as of 1st Jan 2005! Nice one.... only go the brochure less than a week ago.

2 years unlimited mileage now £610.00

Didn't ask about any other options I'm afraid!

My car isn't currently covered by the manufacturer's warranty - it's X reg 2000. Can I take out an extended warranty anyway (even though it isn't actually extending anything)?

Yes, although you may have to get the car checked by them first to make sure there are no faults.
