Hi everyone...Happy New Year.

I'm picking up my 51 plate Roadster on Saturday and it doesn't have a spare wheel. My question is can I get a normal full size matching spare wheel or will the tyre well only have space for a space saver wheel??

Thanks in advance.

Cool...I've had a look...I might just go with that.

Does a full size spare wheel fit in the cavity or does it have to be a space saver...I'm still thinking a matching alloy might be the way forward but no point if it doesn't fit in the tyre well.

Have never tried it but logic says that if you have to replace a wheel with the space saver in an emergency it must have to go in there  s:) :) s:)

...and you can't argue with logic.

I'm guessing a space saver is supplied with the car as front tyre size if different to the rears so will fit either axle .

This is an education...I didn't realise the fronts and rears were different sizes?!!

hi,
your 51 roadster should have 15 inch wheels front and rear. the front wheels are 6j x 15 and the rears are 6.5j x 15. the rear wheels should have a locating peg on the inner face to prevent you fitting them to the front axle. the tyres fitted should be 185 front and 205 rear.
if I remember correctly, from when I had a front puncture, a front wheel + tyre will fit in the spare wheel well but I have never tried a rear ( being an fl, my rear is 7j x 16 anyway ). hth

Pretty sure a 16" would fit in as well, may try one tomorrow if no one confirms   s:D :D s:D

Hi, my pfl has one of its rear wheels off at the moment due to a puncture which needs repairing.  Bad news for me but did mean that I could nip down to the garage and check it fits in the frunk, which it does.  I would suggest getting a space saver as it is lighter and will offer you some storage space around it in the frunk - the full size rim is quite snug.  Also, following on from the other comments, your full size would always be the wrong size for one axle.
Today
2000 x reg pfl - blue - as original no mods
In the late 1980's
1982 x reg Toyota Corolla Liftback Coupe (also blue)
1978 s reg Mitsubishi Celeste Coupe (yellow)

Hi Paulj...thanks for looking into this for me.

I think ultimately I'll be taking your advice in getting a spacesaver because as you say a normal alloy will only fit one axle. Right, eBay here I come!!

Glad I could help

Another quick trip to the garage to confirm that the spacesaver on mine is a T125/70D16 96M original Japanese Bridgestone on a rim with no markings.

Good luck with the search!

16 as in 16inch on a pfl; I thought they were 15 inch??

Exactly the same size as the one I linked you to earlier ...
If you are in doubt phone Dean (the seller) he will put you right....

Well I didn't speak with Dean as he's been in hospital today but I did message him and he said and I quote: "Pre face lift cars have 15 front and rear

Face lift have 15 front but 16 rear
Also 215 width instead of the earlier 205

Less torque and more rubber making the cars handling more stable and controllable "

I'm still not sure what size the space saver will be but he knows I've got 15" wheels so let's see what he sends on Monday [emoji848]

You could argue that's better than a space saver which is always the wrong size for both axles!

well that would depend on how the rolling circumferences correspond to each other   s:) :) s:)

Personally I'm an awful lot more concerned about braking and cornering grip than a few mm difference in tyre circumference. I know which I would actually notice and which I wouldn't.

For the record :

Standard front circumference 72.2 inches
Standard rear circumference 74.1 inches
Spacesaver circumference 71.9 inches

Looks like the Spacesaver is wrong in every dimension?

as I understand it, you shouldn`t be driving on a space saver in a manner that you would be concerned about handling in any shape or form.
is the 71.9 measured at 60psi ?
