Squeaky Clutch Pedal

I've just bought a 2 and when I test drove it; it had a squeaky clutch pedal and the garage got it looked at. It is much better but the garage said it's a hydraulic Clutch and there's nothing for him to oil or grease. It was really noisy but has quietened down since driving it 50 miles yesterday but it still has an annoying squeak.

Do I need to replace the unit or can it be greased??

Btw the Clutch is fine, no slipping and goes into gear easily.

the pedal itself, where it pivots can be greased and has been known to squeak. Other than that, there's not much that can squeak.
I guess the fork itself in the bell housing of the gearbox could squeak. Unlikely. Not sure you'd hear this.
...neutiquam erro.

Is it possible to replace a pivot bushing to stop play in the pedals (all three of them ideally) ?

Which pedal? Play in the throttle is usually because of slack in the cable, "easily" adjusted at the back of the engine.
Slack in the brake pedal is bad news and has a few different possible cause. Clutch has to have a certain amount of "dead travel".

New to Toyota's but I'm assuming the clutch pedal (as well as the brake and throttle) has a pivot which it rotates around. This pivot usually has a brass bushing which wears over time. In BMW's for example you can replace this to get rid of all the play and squeaking.

Older MR2 but this shows the worn bushing -

It's the Clutch pedal shnazzle...it squeaks at the foot pedal and not the Clutch housing

I had that same issue over two years ago, I was convinced the squeak was coming from the clutch pedal, I put grease on all the moving parts on the clutch pedal, but it was no better, I greased the fork in the clutch and hey presto the squeak went.

I had the same a few years ago, I was convinced the squeak was coming from the clutch pedal so I greased all the moving parts on the pedal and it still squeaked, I ten greased the fork in the clutch and hey presto the noise stopped and has been fine since.

I wonder if I'll need some help with all this mechanical stuff...I'm not sure where anything is on the 2 ☹️

I'm no mechanic, but managed to see where the hole was for the clutch arm, I think someone on the site managed to post photos, all I did was spray grease towards fork which I guess is a little risky as grease could get onto the clutch plate, luckily it worked as the squeak was rather annoying, hopefully someone could show pictures.

Don't spray grease. The pivot pin can be reached by removing the rubber boot on the bell housing. It's just beyond a finger-length from the hole. Use a paint brush head attached to some wire/rod which can be bent to shape. It's the easiest way to get enough grease to the exact spot.  The boot is awkward to re-seat.

Might seem strange but check your shoes as I have one pair that makes a hell of a din on the clutch peddle.

On my last mr2 I greased the clutch fork pivot as above. Instant fix and the Creek was LOUD and constant beforehand. I used copper grease I think, on the end of a plumbers flux brush, just a tiny amount.

Need to do this myself, would a cotton bud with grease on the end reach?

Any chance of pictures of the Clutch fork anyone??

Firstly, have someone else listen from outside the car as you depress the pedal.  Pin down where the noise is coming from.
I had a noisy pedal on one car, so don't rule that out just because others found the problem elsewhere.  Also, I have a pair of shoes that do squeak on the pedals (as mentioned above), so bear that in mind.
If the noise is from the pedal, a little lubrication should sort it.  If it turns out to be the clutch fork, it is well concealed on the side of the gearbox behind the engine.  You'll need to get the car up on jack stands and get well underneath until you can clearly see the back of the gearbox/engine.  The clutch fork is mounted on the side of the gearbox with a cylinder attached to it.  Have a good look with a light and you will see it.

There was a good thread on here ( l viewtopic.php?f=11&t=35920 l ) , but all the images are now IMAGE .

corolla/matrix guide , similar enough , recommend NOT removing anything other than rubber cover.

I haven't had anyone stand outside the car to confirm but I'm pretty sure the noise is coming from the Clutch pedal inside the car and if I depress it right home it squeaks a little more.

I'm hoping a spray of lube in and around the pedal might cure it but I need a dry day before I can get on my knees to start spraying behind the pedals....roll on spring !!

As we like to say on here. Work from the cheapset option first.
Free. Try various shoes or barefoot just o rule out all your shoes squeak. Top tip. Dont lube your shoes.  :-) :-) :-)
Minimal cost (time). A spray round the pedal arrangement is a quick and easy thing to do.
More cost (time) the fork pivot point.

My spyders clutch pedal squeeks.  Put in a k20 with 6 speed greased the pivot and the clutch pedal still squeaks.  Very possible it is just the pedal like mine is...
I have alergic reactions to certain lubricant fumes so I'll likely rebuild the pivot bushing.

01' MR2 K20 swap, crazy mods to come

I'm intrigued to see if going barefoot will fix the problem...though not sure how many months it'll be before I can go barefoot...lol.

I like the cheap option but I'm quite prepared to spend money on my Red machine if needed.

Excellent video, mine started doing that but it went away on it's own. Touch wood.

It really does sound like it's from the pedal inside the car, amazing.
