Carpet Clips

I took out my old mats today (as I was swapping out my seats) and the new mats that I have have two holes for the retaining clips to stop the mat riding or moving but in my car I only have one hole in the carpet.

Is this normal and will one clip be enough or is there a way to add another  'hole' to my carpet to accommodate the second clip?

Can't answer your question regarding the clips - but this thread may explain why you only have one hole in  the carpet.
