Hi Folks,
do any of you have any impact driver recommendations?

I've found the following from machine mart which seems to be well recommended..
 m https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke- ... -wrench-2/ m

or I can spend twice as much on a ryobi outfit... don't forget to add the battery and charger!

Any thoughts on what a non-professional needs?

Or you can spend half as much on this and get twice as much power?

NICE! OK cancelling my order from Machinemart.. this one actually comes with the additional sockets I had to order separately anyway!

The mains powered wrenches are plenty good for occasional use. I bought the Timbertech brand a few years ago for a ridiculous £30 - its basically the Clarke under a different name.

Bought it on the basis that it would only be used if more civilised methods of dismantling couldn't cut it. And its brilliant for that.

Aside from the odd gnarly axle spindle nut that needs a new thread cutting on a Sunday afternoon   s:oops:  s:oops:  its not used for any form of reassembly - its just too evil. The battery units have a little more feel in terms of speed control, but thats no big thing if the impact wrench is going to spend most of its life in its case. By the time you need it again you're probably having to think about charging it up or even replacing the battery.

Of course, if you're going to rely heavily on it, then things swing in favour of the battery model....... but I reckon if thats the case you should be ignoring it and looking into a compressor and air tools. JMHO.

I spent hours backing 3 bolts their full length through rusty bushing tubes 2 weekends ago by hand... Forgetting I had an electric impact driver in the shed. Found my bits for it now so hopefully it can be put to good use on the rear end, where I have a few more bolts to do. It's not particularly Torquey/powerful, but it's the vibration/hammering that does the bizz.

I use a cheap 12v one , streetwise brand iirc.
it doesn't impact but shocks with a strange winding up system.
It's been one of the best £20 ever spent.

especially good on pulley/crank bolts.

even got the LDV steering box bolts that scaffolding wouldn't budge.
anyones welcome to borrow it.

Well I must admit - it's honestly only going to really get used for taking the wheels off and on repetitively whilst I sort out the coilovers...

The rest of the time it'll get used as and when I'm redoing brakes.... I can't really think of another time I'm going to use it. But it should save plenty of time in the long run.

I would advise against buying a Clarke CEW1000. Although it quoted something like 450 ft.lb of torque mine (purchased new for this specific task) failed to undo the crank pulley bolt on my other car and, after about 15 minutes of trying, burnt out.

Oh.. ERM... Well i guess i can be nice to it by pre loosening the lugs... But that's not really the point. Oh well...

I forgot the brand but mulaz has a 40 quid one and it was absolutely great when we did our clutches. I borrowed it afterwards to do my subframe. Really helped get some stubborn bolts out.

Just use the correct impact sockets because it will eat your normal sockets.

I bought a Dewatt refurbished mains gun for buzzing wheels off etc, so quick. As already stated don't use it to torque bolts down too powerful and aggressive. I also use a screwfix £70 ERBAUER ERI692IPD 18V 2.0AH LI-ION BRUSHLESS CORDLESS IMPACT DRIVER for general car use, great value and really handy.
