Hi Folks,
It appears that there is a bit of waterproofing required with the use of EDFC motors... turns out you're supposed to use something like shin Etsu Silicone sealant 45 or an equivalent.
The only place I can find in my brief googling is this:
 m https://chilternconnections.co.uk/produ ... 30ml-white m

and it AINT cheap!!!

Does anyone with the appropriate chemical knowledge know of an equivalent that could perhaps be a bit cheaper??

Many thanks!

John

EDIT: - Thanks to Chris, I found the company Intek who supply something called XTS 320  m http://www.intek-uk.com/heat-resistant-sealants.html m  which is a high temp silicone sealant.

AND they actually sell direct  :-) :-) :-)  so from the princely sum of like £8 I'm sorted!  :-) :-) :-)

Looks like a general silicone sealant to me

I've just asked some formulation chemists at work.. one reckons normal silicone will do the job, the other reckons there's a big difference! arrgh...

I'd say any RTV automotive grade silicone should be fine

hmmm..... I shall drop by the local auto store and see if they have something that looks safe!

Three aspects elevate this above the average  RTV..
The thixotropy will keep it from running when applied.
There is no acetic acid outgassing.
The service temperature is very high for this kind of material.
Ex 2GR-FE roadster. Sold it. Idiot.  Now Jaguar F-Type P450 75 Edition RWD. Officially over by the bins.

Chris- you sound like you might know something about this.... Would you be able to recommend an alternative?

I'll delve into it when i get a chance, I've been struggling this week, it's the first day my temperature has dropped below 39C all week, so still well out of it.

Some sort of flu I think. Feeling considerably better today, may go to work.

Try Intek RTV382. The may be cheaper options too. I'll dig around when I get in.
