Knocking noise

Mum's recently acquired MR2 is apparently making a noise on full lock. Must admit I drove it (forgetting to test full lock) and didn't notice anything untoward, but she's using it as a daily driver at the moment.

"It happens when on or close to full lock then on turning back again, eg when passing Colin's car then straightening up,  The twang is getting louder.  Track rod ends suggested."

Any thoughts or experience?

Track rod end, or bottom ball joint, or a-arm bushing, or top bearing on the strut.  In other words jack it up and get yer pry bar out.... then there's the steering knuckle...

Just out of interest, as it's a new purchase, when was the MOT done?
If the knock is that bad, it might suggest an MOT failure based on Carolyn's comments.

Thanks both for replies. Car has done approx 70k but dry stored last couple of years.

Didn't notice any play in the steering wheel in comparison to mine, although on my brief run out I did spot the steering where wasn't centred when going in a straight line.

Will relay above advice. Car hasn't ever failed an MOT (handbrake was bloody beautiful in comparison to mine!)

If it makes twang noise id suggest strut tops are not rotating smoothly,  twisting the spring.

Thanks, just been on the phone to Mum and she said the local mechanic suggested similar.  Are they available from anyone other than Toyota?

mr2ben is a reputable seller.     m https://mr2-ben.co.uk/products/813 m  .
good used ones cleaned up with new grease would be as good imo.

It's something local mot place could check easily.
Putting the wheels on metal cups that allow easy turning of the steering while the cars weight is still on them.

Had a very similar noise on my Roadster last year and turned out to be the top mount bearings.
Bought some new ones from Rocar U.S.A for 75 quid delivered.
I've  had them on for almost a year without any problems.
