Hi All!

Had the car in to Kwikfit on Friday to get a laser wheel alignment done and now the handling is spot on! However I now seem to have developed a leak from the front drivers side of the car... Trouble is that none of my fluid levels seem to have gone down? It seems to be roughly the area of the brake master cylinder but the master itself is bone dry to the touch and the brake fluid level is still at max???

I'm going to have a further investigation tonight after work. What should I be paying attention to? Why are my levels not going down?

Any ideas appreciated!!   s:) :) s:)

No, it's not wiper fluid. It's pretty oily and smells a bit like WD40. I had it into the local garage on Thursday to have the track rod on the same side replaced so I'm wondering if they have broken something while they were working in that area.

Under the plastic you also have clutch fluid, and power steering pipes.

My bet is the power steering pipes. They tend to corrode & leak at the point where they're clamped between the pump & the rack. Plastics off in the frunk & look down there with a torch you'll see if it's that.

Spot on. Power steering line is corroded and leaking. I'm taking it back to the garage that did the work on it last week as I'm sure its no coincidence that the leak started after they replaced the track rod just below this pipe. Still don't know why the power steering fluid level hasn't dropped. Maybe it was over filled to start with.

Not sure I like the look of the steering UJ either but the steering seems to be fine so I'll leave it just now.

Thanks

To be fair those pipes are realy crusty and it was only a matter of time before they failed, I wouldn't blame the garage.

I tend to agree with Wabbitkilla. They're a common failure on our cars at this age.

Yeah, looking at them I suppose it was only a matter of time. Running without the front nappy probably hasn't helped! Might be an idea to look into getting one from Mr T.

My belief is that there is very little fitted to cars  that does not serve a useful or aesthetic function, with the exception of the passenger window disable switch on the 2.
It might be to do with what we call the " nappy" would you admit to having one?
If we called it an undertray or anti crud shield maybe we would be happier keeping them where Mr T intended.

I take it these are the correct aftermarket replacements: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322177470625 (Got the link from another thread). Mr T wanted £350   s:flame: :flame: s:flame:

Would I need to bleed the power steering system after fitting or would it be good enough to make sure the pipes are full of fluid when fitting? I hear bleeding the PS is a right pain.

Argh! Where can you buy the proper power steering fluid? It should be part 08886-01206 but everywhere I check it is listed as discontinued??? From what I have read non toyota stuff is a recipe for a ruined pump.

What does everyone else use?

Thanks!

Sorry to spam posts but has anyone tried this stuff: http://www.ravenol-direct.uk/ravenol-e-psf-fluid.html ? It claims to meet the Toyota 08886-01206 standard and is only £12.99 a litre! Too good to be true   s:?: :?: s:?:

It would be my choice.  If it's not Toyota compatible, that would be a very big lie and they would have been exposed by now.
