Just put a deposit down on an MR2.  Its in silver, 04 reg direct from main dealer but it was a pre-registered car so although its 8 months old, it has only 70 miles on it and is spotless. Paid £17000 near enough, with leather, aircon and hardtop.  Was that a good price and what would I expect to lose over the next 2 years?

They actually reduced the "sale" price but, at £17000, my trade in price was spot on what I hoped for, so I am thinking to myself I paid top dollar for this one but didn't lose much on my trade in, if that makes sense   s:? :? s:?    s:lol:  s:lol:   (i.e. my trade in was a bit pants but I paid under 16k if you see what I mean!).

Anyway, hello to my soon to be fellow MR2 owners, I am sure you'll all be getting lots of crap questions and poor humour from me for a while to come.

Don't know.  I do know that you should quit worrying and enjoy your new car!

It is a good feeling to know you have done the right thing, but there will always be somebody getting it cheaper, getting it newer, getting more freebies, getting better finance, getting better p/ex etc etc.

Since it is never the same person, don't worry! Just ENJOY ( and welcome, by the way).

Got to wait till tuesday as a leather guy is going to look at a little scratch in the drivers seat for me - if he cannot fix it they'll have to redo the drivers seat.  Is the leather a prone to scratches/tears from jean studs and the like?

I am still reeling that I paid out more than I ever wanted to but then I didn't think I'd get a hard top nor one with 70 odd miles on the clock lol.

Looking forward to running it in and then getting the LSD working   s:twisted:  s:twisted:

Comming from a Civic Type R the steering is a fantastic but it feels a bit slow.  Do they get quicker as they loosen up?

Take care on the horrible slippery roads at the moment!

I certainly think ours loosened up twice, once about 4k and again about 12k miles, by which time it started to feel properly free.  Don't think it will ever rev like a CTR though, you'll need a 2ZZ conversion for that.  Ran ours in relatively gently, under 4krpm for 1000 miles, then an oil change.

Enjoy!

Sounds like a pretty good deal - as you got air/leather/hardtop. Remember, this car may not be as quick as a CTR, nor is it as much of a screamer, but it IS rear wheel drive. BE CAREFUL, as it will not forgive you.  s:wink:  s:wink:

Oh, and welcome and enjoy. Sadly that 17K is just the start...  s:D :D s:D

Cheers, don't feel ripped off at all now   s:D :D s:D

You'd be surprised how tail happy the CTR is.  Many owners have smashed them up by losing the rear.  It's very easy to proke the tail out under "controlled" conditions but it can snap like a mouse trap if you are a bit thick with the throttle or brakes on corners (product of 1200kg wtih over 60% weight at the front!)

Actually wanted something a bit slower than the Type R as that always wanted to be caned whenever you drove it.  Often got home from work frustrated that I couldn't VTEC is enough - not good when the roads are slippy nor in a county plauged by speed cams, both mobile and fixed   s:evil:  s:evil:

i gave the MR2 (do you guys just refer to it as the 2 or MR2?) a bit of welly round a nice open corner and felt the rear twitching around but it felt quite stable.  Are they prone to unrecoverable snap oversteer?
